Pushing a cart around the food section of Walmart over Christmas, I made a discovery: they have a large variety of daily/hourly pill dispensers that are ideal for small parts. I got one with 28 separate compartments, each about one inch cubed. Right now I'm using it to hold bayonets, cartridge cases, canteens, etc. for some figures I'm painting, but it would also be good for long-term organization of spares.

Some of the smaller pill dispensers would be ideal for holding series of mixed acrylic tints over the course of the few days it takes to paint a figure (if you use more paint than a wet palette can hold). You'd probably need to seal the whole thing in a bag or something after each session, since the compartments aren't 100% airtight.

I use these small containers with lids that electrical tape comes in. Alot of empty ones laying around at work....I label the tops of them and stack them up.

I use empty Skoal cans.
I know, I know. It's a nasty habit and I'm trying to quit

Being an eater of yogurt...guess what I use? The cups (yogurt) I get have clear plastic lids so I can see everything thats in it w/o having to open them up. Roomy too, can fit lots of parts in them, medium through tiny. The lids also double as mixing palettes for paints, glue drops for use with pin applications, pastel powder shavings...all this and they're easily cleaned...even the super glues.

I look at Anything with a 1/35 persepective asking myself - "How can I use that thing for modeling?"

As does Matt - I use Altoid tins to hold parts.
I recycle old Tamiya Paint jars for mixed tints, smaller batches of thinner (windex, wiper fluid, alcohol, etc)
I use 35MM film canisters.

Now that you bring it up... I was going to ask this question:

What do you do with partially used sprues. As long as they have parts on them I would not ever throw them away, but how the heck do you organize the parts when they are taken off? I have a large devided tray I was going to use.. .with a sealing cover. But what about larger parts, like fenders, hulls, etc that are left from kit-bashes, etc. Any ideas out there?

I use a tackle box, the bottom has room for my tools and the top layer has about ten diferent compartments. but most of the time i find my workbench works good. it holds EVERYTHING big or small blah blah blah . . actualy its just a mess and i need a reason.
