Does anybody have a good site describing the table of organization of US Army divisions in WWII? I'm interested in seeing the number and type of various tanks, afvs, etc. in platoon, company, regiment and up.

Thanks in advance.

This site might help, though it has a few gaps in it: http://www.bayonetstrength.150m.com/UnitedStates/united_states_divisional_organis.htm
Make sure you click around the links -- lots of good info in here.

Lots of wargaming sites also have this sort of information, if you're looking for more.

I like to use George Forty's book "U.S. Army Handbook, 1939-1945" for a primary reference.

I would supplement Bob's response by asking you to also look up Shelby Stanton's great book on the United States Army in World War II. I use that book in my graduate program. It is an oversized book that details a myriad of organizations created during the war. Easy to read and well referenced. Unless someone can correct me, my recollection is that we had five tanks in a platoon, 17 tanks to a company, 53-54 in the battalion. We did not alter that until quite recently.

Mr. Cole- If you haven't seen this site yet it's worth a look. This portion is a very detailed breakdown of a US tank BN T.O.&E. in Italy, ca 1944. The rest of the site is exceptional as well, for general, day-to-day info on the Italian Campaign.

Well, that certainly is a mouthful. Is it an Infantry company?

DJ,

yes an infantry regiment.

the 'woofers' are one of the finest and oldest infantry regiments in the british army(and probably the world)

im in the TA which is the reserve arm of the british army, and we are a light infantry battalion.

the regulars are mechanised, in warriors.

cheers

Well, a similar US infantry company would have six officers and 195 enlisted men divided into four platoons and a headquaters section. How are you folks organized?
