I have to say I am really suprised to see we have 24 registered users who put SA as their country. I can remember when I had to post on a modeling forum based in SA to get the FIRST person from Africa to sign-up and vote in one of our polls. This one:
https://armorama.kitmaker.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=NS-Polls&file=index&req=results&pollID=19&mode=flat&order=1&thold=0
If there is any way to make the site more useful or user-friendly for modelers from South Africa or the Continent in general please let me know via my contact link below.
Thanks!!
Jim

Welcome to the big A.
Re. meetings & workshops, I would suggest you contact your local chapter of IPMS, check out http://www.ipmssa.za.org for their contact details. Personally I find the forums on this site to be of a great help.
Re. supplies, you can also ask the IPMS guys where they get their stuff. It really depends what you mean by the term supplies though, as this is a rather broad term. Tools, I get mine from everywhere from the local hobby shop to the hardware store to a local watchmakers store. Diorama bits I get from the local train modelling stores. Kits, though, I am not bit fan of the brands brought into SA, so I get family & friends in the UK & Europe to send to me.
Hope this helps. If you need any more SA advice, drop a post in the SA forum, as I check it daily.

Hey Guys,
Just joined up
I build mainly Armour, Aircraft and Figures
Haven't finished anything in a while though
Mainly from the local Hobby Shop, but there's a shop in Cape Town called Cape Watchmakers who have some very good stuff.
Check them out... They also do overnight delivery

Howzit Cougar
Welcome to the big A.
Funny you should mention Cape Watchmakers, I work down the road from them and Jeffrey Stein.
Which hobby store do you use? Where do you buy your figures from? I am always looking for new and different suppliers?
Any idea who is the Dragon importer at the moment? My local guy sells one or two of their kits, but none of the good stuff.

Thanks, Tarok
There are a few up here, but I normally use Jix
I haven't bought any in a long time...
I think the last figures I got were the Tamiya 1/16 Luftwaffe Pilot and Tank Crewman from Jix
You got me on that... I don't have a clue
The Dragon stuff is getting pretty scarce these days

Thanks for the info Erik.
I'll definitely be calling him for the Dragon stuff. I get my Tamiya from Jeffrey Stein in Bree street and my Humbrol from Thom's Hobbies in N1 City though.

I think Jeff Stein's "factory" shop's prices are very similar. They are the Tamiya agents for SA, so have to sell at a recommended retail price I guess. I bonus here is that because they are the agents they prety much have the entire range as well as a few items that have been discontinued, e.g. I got a set of British 8th Army Desert Rats that are OOP. And you save on postage - I work down the road from them, so it makes sense for me to go there.
Re. the humbrol, Thom's sells them at about R12.95 a tin - which isn't bad. Again the saving here would be in the postage.
Aparrently someone is in negotiation to take over the Dragon agency - a Cape Town wholesaler - so it'll be interesting to compare prices once that takes place. But at the moment the Dragon prices aren't too bad...
Thanks for the links tho...

Hey Bren,
Thanks for the info
A while back I visited Italeri's website, they had two online catalogues, one for the Italeri range, and one for the Dragon range.
I wonder if they are affiliated... Can anybody shed some light on this?

Real easy Erik :-)
Warren, did you ever get hold of the Humbrol Natural Wood? I was in Thom's in N1 City over the weekend and noticed they were out of it. Unfortunately the weekend staff are a bit dense and couldn't shed any light on whether it's been discontinued.

Hey Tarok,
Nope, ended up getting Matt US Tan (118) instead
Tried about 6 shops up here for it and not one of them had it. So I guess it's been discontinued

Forgot to mention that George Winship will be at the Nationals with some of his stock, if there is something you want him to bring down for you to look at just write and ask him for it.
