i know its been out for a year or so now, but ive only just gottin round to watching it and,

its one of the best films ive seen for ages, its got all the ingredients of a fantastic film:

zombies,
guns,
its set in britain,
and manchester burns to the ground!

how much better can you get!

i was wondering as its a british film put out by an american company, how many of you US guy have seen or heard of it? what did you all think?

i think its gonna be a cult classic,

cheers

I liked it. I thought it was pretty funny the animal rights people caused the whole mess by releasing the monkeys at the beginning. I also liked the fact that the zombies were FAST. I was really getting tired of zombies you could walk away from.

i agree dog soldiers is good, the inaccuracy of the british military kit etc gets to me a bit, but still a good film.

i think we are capable of some really fantastic films, but our film industry is so crap we have to go cap in hand to hollywood to make anything decent!

I thought Dog Soldiers was better done as a Brit film than a typical American 'formula' horror movie. The only thing that scares me is there IS a sequel in the works for Dog Soldiers but I keep hearing it's going to be done through Hollywood which makes me nervous. Cooper is supposed to be back and possibly even the Sarge (maybe blown clear?), one person I'm going to miss is Spoons.

thanks for the info moezilla,

id not heard about a sequel, but id also be dubious if it was an american production!

it would be a shame if they ruined it by adding the hollywood hype. i think if they stick to the gritty style many british films have they will be on a winner!

look at guy ritchies two biggest films, lock stock and two smoking barrels was excellent, and sticking to the same style etc, snatch was even better!

I agree, I hope it stays a gritty Brit production for sure. I really loved the characters which is the first step in enjoying the rest of the movie, they were all excellent. It took me a couple of times through the movie to pick up on most of the slang but what I didn't know outright I figured out.

Sorry Joe -
The movie sucked. I caught up the hype and rented it. The early part of the film was somewhat novel, but the line about the British Army troopers looking for breeding stock really turned me off.

The other part I like was showing animal rights wacko's as the zelots they are. Releasing infected monkeys into the world for the sake of the monkey's right - got to love it. :-)

GSPatton,

i thought the plot was excellent, even the bit about the soldiers, i think the idea was in all the chaos they reverted back to the 'tribal' instincts or something.

lord dave, i personally think its better than dog soldiers, even though thats a great film!

cheers

funny,
as the motorway signs for Preston were wrong,
landrovers ect were ser3's.
As for the squaddies looking for breeding stock, this cold be a take on the SS who in WW2 had
selective breeding centers there is a programm shown on the Discovery channel from time to time about this

i noticed the signs too mike,

i think the roadblock must have been fabricated from scratch, so maybe they made a mistake with the signs.

anyway, they said 20 odd miles north east of manchester, wouldnt that put them right on saddleworth moor? or at least you would be able to see the hills?

as for the landies, it never said what unit or regiment they were, and im not familiar with the unit marking/div sign on the vehicles. could be TA we still have some of the old 110s.

Both 28 Days Later and Dog Soldiers were great movies. As stated above, fast zombies were a welcomed change to the genre of horror movies.

just as a side note, last night i watched a documentary called 'invasion' about what we were going to do to the germans if they invaded. and guess what?

the house and the ruined abbey used to film 28 days later were on it!

the abbey is in the grounds of the hall, i cant remember the name, but its near guildford, surrey.

and even more interesting, it formed part of a defensive strong point and is surrounded by dragons teeth and bunkers. interesting eh!

cheers

Are both these out on DVD yet? Sounds like a couple of interesting flics to see one night when there is no TV to watch (which is pretty much the case every night)

steve,

both are out on DVD, and have been for a while, so you may be able to pick them up cheap.

both are great films,
dog soldiers is about british soldiers on exercise being hunted by werewolves, and 28 days later is a well thought out, modern take on the zombie theme.

cheers

Definitely head to Blockbuster and rent them Steve, both are great flicks and worthy rentals. The only thing I didn't like about 28 days later was something already mentioned, about the girls being looked upon as good breeding stock.

It's only been 4 weeks at the time they run into the soldiers and within 4 weeks they are reminiscent of troops from the 'Mad Max' era. Gone is the professionalism you see in the squaddies in Dog Soldiers (which was a BIG selling point to me, they were genuine characters) and I think it would have served the movie much better to have them be professional rather than get into that little subplot. Other than that quibble I LOVED that movie, go check it out! I love the "hellloooooo.... helllloooooo" scene, pretty chilling when you think about it.

Btw, there's talk of a sequel in the works called "28 weeks later" and from what I've heard the rumor has it that Danny Boyle will not be working on this one. Which is a shame because it was his vision that made the movie great. Hopefully this will not be a 'hollywood' movie as it will be a formula flick and will be a letdown.

right after i saw the movie with my family I just said " this is one of the best movies i have ever seen" and them my mom and dad said it was terrible and that they didn't like it!! there are two different reactions when you watch this movie, either you think its the best one ever or you say you didn't like it.
I loved the part before the end when all of the soldiers get inffected, it just has this kind of rhythm, like you are hearing a song instead of watching a movie, I loved it!!

You are right about people either lovin' it or hatin' it. I loved it!! Just a fast brutal movie, with I thought was a realistic outlook on human behaviour if put into that scenario. Young men in chaos can instantly lose any professionlism they have.

I haven't watched many British productions, but what I have watched, Lock Stock, Snatch, and this movie, I have really enjoyed. I will definitely be checking out Dog Soldiers.

OK..it's only 5 days later.....I saw both Dog Soldiers and 28 Days Later. Not good enough for the big screen, but as extremely entertaining DVD's..both these are TOP NOTCH. They don't rely on super spashy special effects like American movies, but have riveting entertaining story lines. You guys need to check out both of these

I liked 28 Days Later...liked the fast zombies...and I really liked the stripped down look of the movie. I am way too tired of flashy effects that sugar coat most stinker movies over here.

The scene that freaked me out is when the zombie sees the candle light in the window....CRASH
