I'm trying to scratch the straps that are used to tie stuff to the back of a truck. To make the straps, I think I'll use lead foil. My problem is rather with the metal parts that are used to tighten up the straps. Do they exist in PE version ? Any other suggestions ?
Has anyone scratchbuilt them ?

Masking tape strips aye?! Writing that one down. Last time I used the foil method, it was a pain to get them to look right.

i made my strap with foil from a bottle of wine (surrounding the cap),and i used thin wire from electric component to make the buckle. You need practice in the beginning but the result is very nice.

I make my straps of paper. About 80-100g weight paper, slightly coated (satin surface) is the best I´ve found so far. If you paint it after glueing, the paint seals it in position.

There's a few good hints in there, thanks to all of you !

In fact, I'm looking for the metal parts that are used to fasten tie-down straps, like these :

Ive got a pretty good idea, but you have to bear with me
If you cut 2 thin disks from round sprue, drill the smallest hole you can with a pin vice, cut a thin piece of wire at the lenth youll need and glue the 2 pancakes of sprue on either end , and theres your spool .
now you can cut another piece of sprue into a tiny square, theres your latch.
This is what I would do . But I also havent tried it yet . give it a try .

Right now, I am currently trying my own method (which may not look how its supposed to, I am not exactl sure HOW it is supposed to look, but I have taken some coconut string as they call it in this article about making palm trees on armorama but what I did was I took the string and broke it into each single thread (which about the same size as normal string) and then dipped it in the paint of my prefrence, and whipped all extra paint with a cloth. I then left it to dry, and will attach them later. The only thing, good or bad, is that the paint didn't really stiffen them up, so if you don't want them to move, or crap, but if you do, it should work alright.
