Great, i was getting all set to practice my airbrushing skills when i noticed no paint was coming out of the nozzle.
it isnt the first time it happens to me, but its the first time i cant fix it... i usualy clean it again and iam okay after but didnt work this time.... any clues to whats wrong with it??? is it my nozzle? because ive only had it for a year and havnt used it much ( only learned how to operate an airbrush in september )
and another thing, i never got clean lines with it. it always splattered on the side, made little messy dots of paint which wasnt very nice
And another thing...
it never painted constantly, it would always spit paint out 3-4 times, stop a second and start again, liek the morse code
As you can see, iam having quite a hard time
any help?

I'm no airbrush expert either, but it sounds like your mixture is too thick. Clean your airbrush really well, and experiment with your paint to thinner ratio. Good luck.

Couple of questions first:

What airbrush are you using?
What are you using for an air supply?
What is the air pressure you are trying to spray at?
Can you spray water through it - evenly and constantly?

Sounds like you need to thin your paint more OR you need to filter the paint.

hey Kencelot
iam using an aztek airbrush, i dont know which model though, have you seen the 70$ kit at walmart that comes with paint, air can etc... well thats what iam using ( iam saving up for something better)
iam using my dads compressor as an air supply, it has an oil filter, moister filter etc on it ( he used to do paint jobs on cars when i was younger)
and i tried out pressures from 0psi to 40psi
and for the water, well no i cant, i cant even have it come out at all. but before the problem iam having now happened, i wasnt able to spray paint evenly and sonstanly, same for water.
maybe i damaged the nozzle

Okay, with your Aztec, do you have one of those side paint cups with a lid?
If so, be sure that the breather hole in the lid is open. Should be little pin hole there that is required for the air to flow in as the paint flows out through the AB.
Usually, if this is clogged, the paint in the cup will bubble as air is forced back through the AB.
Awaiting your reply...

Hey Kencelot,
i checked the breath hole on the cup and its fine, i put it back on the lid and i had thinner in the bottle because i was trying to unclog my nozzle which had no point at all because i found out it isnt clogged so anyway, i put the lid on blowed air in the bottle just fine, and blowed it in my mouth, and found out how horrible paint thinner tastes

so set my AB on the ompresor and same thing happened. nothing came out. the airhole is fine but it still makes bubble in my airbrush, i put water in my pipette and put it in the hole paint usualy enters to go in the airbrush and it sprayed perfectly, so iam guessing my airbrush has something wrong with it or its my bottle...

Never had an aztec, but it could be the little seal before the nozzle isn´t tight or worn. I had this problem before as well with a badger copy brush. If this is not tight or damaged, you dont get the suction. So if your nozzle is free it could be the answer. Also make sure your needle is clean and not bent at the tip.

hey plasticbottle,
after telling everyone it was the end for my nozzle, i undid the whole thing, let it settle in paint thinner over the night, gave it a good clean, i tried it to see if it worked and it didnt, i adjusted the tightness of the nozzle and all, but nothing worked :(:( it stoped making bubles at one point but didnt spray paint :S

Anyway, Thx

im no expert, but i had something similar happen to me with a badger 200. what was actually causing the problem was one of the rubber sealing rings had rotted, and the air can get around. it didnt make any noise when it was happening, the only way i could tell was when i felt the air flowing out when i was holding it.

maybe checking the seals would help?

cheers

I read through the posts again, and i believe this is the problem! Maybe you could buy the seals ... they´re a lot cheaper than the nozzle to buy!

sounds good, 2 things-
1- were can i get the seals, and how much about?
2-how to i change teh seal?
Thx, o by the way, i just got back from walmart and baught this cheap 30$ one, its the first one i had and never got to see if it worked good, i got set up to paint and couldnt make any air come out because the air can froze so i ended up throwing all the pieces away except for the gun because i was too lazy to clean them well, i tried to clean enamels in my sink with water and made a mess, so i threw everything out lol, i had a first bad experience, and second one with airbrushes, but since i use dads compressor everythings good

Frank

o before i leave, i also baught some black oil paint, can anyone tell me what i should use to thin it? thx!

he there..glad to hear that u have already fix the problem...
me too have an Aztek for years..they're somtime cause trouble...but there;s only minor ....

oil paint?? what brand do u have??
i always thin them with turpentine...is u hate the odors then tyr to get low ordor oil ..this is mainly parafin oil...
is u want to be expensive, try to use Winsor Newton English refined turpentine...

my 2 cents

Careful with the thinner. If its too strong it could lift your base paint and even unglue some parts. Check it out first on some glued and painted sprues!
I use humbrol enamel thinners for ols. Its mild and works perfectly ... everytime.

yeah, my dad called me an idiot, he gave me some realy strong thinner to clean my brushes, and i used it with my airgun... lol
so i guess the plastic nozzle melted and it screwed it up lol, its an expensive mistake lol
Instead, he gave me something else less strong, but since iam slowly using more and more acrylics water works fine
