itsa now 60 years since the battle and this year it will be overshadowed with the normany landings the bbc has an article on it with veterns tales ect and a few links off it

It's because the Italian campaign was overshadowed by D-day that the 8th Army were labelled 'D-Day Dodgers' by Nancy Astor in the House of Commons, prompting the well known song. You'r e right, we shouldn't forget Cassino.

U.S. troops were there too ! My father was wounded at Cassino, while with Darby's Rangers, causing him to be in hospital and miss the Anzio invasion where most of his unit was lost.

Hey Mike,
Thanks for reminding me. Battle for Monte Cassino was one of the bloodiest battles of WW2. What I am proud of is how well the Polish, British and other troops fought the crack German paratroopers. You are right about fight for Cassino being sort of the forgotten battle. Perhaps we should have a campaign to commemorate it.
