Okay, I learned an important lesson. Test fit your aftermarket tracks BEFORE you glue the drive sprockets together. Now my drive sprockets are too narrow for the tracks.
Unfortunately, I did a great job with the glue and it is not coming apart. They are glued to the model.
Does anyone have any suggestions? It's too much to try and shave off the inside of the drives.
I am considering sawing the drives in half and putting a shim/spacer in, re-gluing, and filling. I wanted some advice before I started sawing on a model.

Are the parts super-glued? If so, try putting the model in the freezer - the joint may release(and it may not). CA is sensitive to moisture and cold so if the remainder of your model is super-glued the entire affair may also disassmble.

No it's not CA. I also have a ton of PE on it that I don't want to have to put back on again.

Steve:

This is what I would do if I were you. Get a good razor saw, and take your time. It shouldn't be too bad a job. What's the model?

It's the Academy M-12 gun motor carriage. I think I'm going to cut it tomorrow, unless someone comes up with a better plan.

Firecracker...particularly an M-80. Fix the problem in a jiffy, once done, it will be the last problem on your mind. (some side effects MAY occur using this advanced technique).

I know this sounds stupid but ...why not just use the kit tracks on this one and save you AM's for the next sherman based kit ...Just a thought!

They are the vinyl tracks. I may just use them anyway. I just can't stand them. Every time I use them the model always has that "toy" look. Plus I have already put PE on and it seems a shame to put vinyl tracks on a kit with PE on it.

Steve

If you do "surgery" on the sprocket please let us know how it comes out. The M12 builds into a great looking kit so I hope this comes out alright for you. Is the rear spade and step piece already on the model?--- that may make the cutting a little more complex. Good luck.

No, I haven't attached the spade yet. I'm probably going to just write it off and use the kit tracks. I don't want to chance wrecking the PE. So at least I have another kit I can use the tracks on. Either way I learned an important lesson.
