I have seen two types of Milliputs (both are Tamiya I think). What's the difference between the grey ones from the white ones?

this is what i think.
i think the white putty is a fine grain.
and the grey is a corsh grain
so u can use both kind for what ever u are doing. so i guess it dont matter
what color u get

There are actually four types of Milliput. Check out their site here: http://www.milliput.com/home.htm

BTW, I think Tamiya has their own putty -- I doubt it's really Milliput unless they've done some sort of marketing agreement. Milliput is a brand name for a line of epoxy putties.

Your gonna think I'm really cheap when I say this but hey!

I use Blu-tack, the stuff you use to stick posters up with.........

There are some advantages, One it doesn't go off. Plenty of time to work and play with it!
And it's cheaper..........

Once you have the shape you want, coat it with superglue or another suitable hardner.....and Hey presto...........

If I had a picture of the (1:35) Wounded german soldier I made you would see that it does work..........Both the top of his head and the bandages were made using Blu-tack!

Blu-tack????

I've used it for years for lots of things, but never as a substitute for Milliput.

Doggone, Longshanks, I thought I was a "frugal" modeler until I read this post!

LongShanks -
Hats off to you for your improvisation skills
or is it "heads - off?"

Anyway I use Milliput coarse grain, and swear by it for some things.
There is a resin TIE Bomber from Star Wars 5 in my Gallery with a lot of Milliput filling in the larger bubbles and seams. The stuff that putty would have shrunk up too badly on.
Also I'm lighting a small XWing fighter and used Milliput to build my battery holder b/c the mail order ones were too big to fit inside the kit...

A very versatile product, with a great working time, available online from numerous mail order houses, made in the UK.

Cheers !
