This is my first attempt at black and white digital montage and first try at a prop.
The prop effect could be better.

Comments welcome
Thanks and cheers

The pic looks great. You can just add some more planes at his side to make it look better. Good work! I wanna try that technique out myself.

Nice job. You did a great job on the technique. If I did this I would be proud of the results.

From a very technical point, the blurry ground to me looks like it is blurry from movement.
The ground would be blurry because of depth of field focus, not movement. At the altitude it appears this photo is taken, the ground would not be as blurry as it is from the movement of flight. Does that make sense?

Great job on the camo too.

I must agree with slodder. I think you've overdone the blurrying on the backgroud. Since it's a prop plane, it wouldn't travel that much fast.

Hi guys and thanks...
you both may be right about the blurring, but I applied car logic.
If you focus on a car as the subject the background results in a blurred effect. And vica versa if you focus on the background.

I will try a few alternatives and we'll see which looks best.
Thanks again.
Cheers

flitzer, I totally agree with the car logic. Consider the distance between the subject and the background and the resulting relative speed. I am also putting myself in another plane to 'view' the photo. This means that I am doing about the same speed as the subject. What that does is moves your focual point along with the subject. In a car, if you were watching from the side, your head and camera would move altering the relative speed. I think the two variables have an affect on the blurriness.

Again - don't get me wrong. I like the photo and have tried doing similar things. So I know how much work you've put into it and totally respect that. I have move away from critiquing the photo to an open discussion on photography.

After going back to the drawing board and trying your suggestions...here is attempt 2.
I've de-blurred the background and added second aircraft banking in to position.
Posted the colour original that was turned in to the black and white.

I added grain to try and give an old pic look.
Again your comments not just welcome, but essential.

Many thanks and cheers

Now you got the right spot! I love the colored photo. The second photo looks as good as the first one too. Congratulations!
