Mate, I live near Paddington. There is little in the way of model shops in the area.

The closest is in Holburn, now called the Model Co. Fairly good selection of plastic kits from Airfix to ICM and theusual Tamigawa. They also stock a limited selection of Mig Productions stuff. However, detail kits and obscute stuff is limited. The satff are absolutely clueless.

A more intersting place is the Hannants shop in Colindale. I is about 45 minutes on the Underground. The staff are knowledgeable and they have a large variety of evertything including super detail stuff, decals, second hand etc.

I will post the addresses with links to a map site in a minute. Just got to dig out the post codes.

Directions.

Take the Circle Line (Yellow) from Paddington to Kings Cross. Change to the Northern Line (Black) looking out for an Edware Train. Once on a Northbound Northern line train you get off at Collindale. The shop is IMMEDIATELY on your right as you exit the station.

If you are into dioramas, please go to the 4D modelshop. They just moved. They have items that you can't get anywhere in the US. They are mentioned in the awesome Osprey "Terrain Modeling" book (my bible for terrain). But, remember they moved, so check their website. Here it is. The Arches, 120 Lemean Street, London, E1 8EU. www.modelshop.co.uk
I am envious as I would love to get there myself. Say Hi to Zyg. Tell him hello from Jeff from Kansas.

Hi there

I hope you have a great trip to the UK.

As the others have hinted... Central London is a bit of wasteland when it comes to model shops... there used to be plenty, but I've watched them close one-by-one over the last 10 or so years.

Modelzone is really about the only one left. As Jakkels says, it's very mainstream, but it usually has a Sale on... so you might pick up a few bargains - particularly Revell stuff. :-)

Hannants is the obvious London target, but you could also check out:

Comet Miniatures

46-48 Lavendar Hill

London SW11 5RH

Tel: 020 7228 3702

http://www.comet-miniatures.co.uk

Comet is a bit unusual. Their main shop is all Sci-Fi models, but next-door has an extensive range of military stuff and a lot of "loft clearances" - so there are some real collector's items on the shelves... well worth checking.

I haven't been to the new 4D shop yet, but their old ones (they've moved several times) were great! - plenty of hard to find stuff (materials rather than kits).

All the best

Rowan
