Hi all. I'm looking for articles or SBS on scratchbuilding rounded tile roofs. I thought I had seen something on it here, but can't find it. Anybody got any suggestions or leads? Oh. The scale is 1/35.

Thanks!

Ok, tell me what kind of tiles.. semi-rounded "roman" style overlapping tiles, or "shingle" style tiles? I created two molds for each type with RTV and now cast my own.

To make nice looking Roman style tiles, take a handful of plastic straws and slice them lengthways with a razor or Xacto blade... then cut them into tiles about 1/2 inch long.

Cut a piece of cardboard in the shape of the roof area to be covered... this will be your "backing".

Start at the bottom of a piece of cardboard, and run a bit of white glue along the edge. Lay the the cut plastic straw tile across the width of the cardboard, making sure each tile is nested in the white glue.

Then do the next row on top of the first row, and so on, until you have a size that is appropriate for your needs.

Allow for everything to dry, and then come back with a thinned mixture of SPACKLE (or plaster) and WATER, and paint a nice rough(but thin!!!!) texture across the surface of the roof section. Allow this to dry, them paint as normal.

Piece of cake.... and looks great.
