OK just got a new tube of Squadron putty and put it to use yesterday. Five minutes after opening it, I'm nausious. Read the back and it says that it contains toluene that can cause brain damage!?! It says to work in a well ventilated area but that is out of the question (all of you cheeseheads out there will understand ). What can I do so as not to risk losing my chances at passing college because of these risks?

ALl I can recommend is getting some venilation to: 1, move the fumes away from you & 2 some way to vent them out of your work space. #:-) Maybe open a window (and storm window?) far enough to allow a small fan to push air out. Then use a piece of plywood or a wadded up old towel to stop cold air from geting back either side of the fan. Make ant sense?

Mix it with Testors' Liquid Cement for that complete 'buzz'? #:-)

Seriously, if there's no other options, have a small fan running in the background somewhere at least to keep the fumes scattered and away from direct inhalation.

Thanks for the help everyone. Hollowpoint, I agree. Reading the backs of the paint/glue/putty bottles makes me think that modelers have the best chance of surviving a chemical attack. #:-)

Kyle, I have the same stuff and the same problem. I seem to do okay with windows open and a big fan running. Just be sure to keep the tube capped whenever you are not using it. One other solution is to go to your local surplus store and pick up a good old fashioned gas mask. I have been debating this option for years, if for no other reason than to own a Soviet gas mask!
