i have a problem. My friends assemble the model first then paint it. I was trying to get other peoples stand point on this. When you paint it last arent you missint the interior details.

This topic has been debated quite a bit here and seems to be pretty envenly divided. Some paint before assembly, some after. Personally I do most all the assembly first, except for those areas that I know I won't be able to do after it's built.

I paint my models in sections. Course I'm a brush painter, but it works out better for me. I can paint area's that need painting first, then leave airea's unpainted so they dont get smeared or scraped. Seams like a flexible way to me!

Cheers.

P.S. there is a poll to the left about this same topic.

It should be on the left side of your screen, just below the main menu ending with "Shopping." Click on the results tab and theres the results of the poll.

Hi Little Nick.
If its any help. I usually brush paint the interior bits such as seat, instrument fascia etc prior to assembly. The cockpit sides and floor, I brush paint, then stick it all together in a fuselage half. Once everything is in place I then asemble everything else except things like undercarriage/wheel assemblies and doors plus any things like bombs or fuel tanks. These I paint and attach last.
Once all the fuselage, tail and wings are together I do the canopy and mask it.
The next step, I airbrush it.
Again hope it's of some help.

Go with what works best for you. Personaly I try to think of the way my subject would come out of the factory and paint it as such. Later paint and add all the things that are going to be added, hang, tacked on etc...

Okay, Littlenick, my take on tank painting.
First, understand, any surface that may ever be seen gaets a coat of paint, even if it's black or white behind an open vision port.
Wheels get painted base color with tires in grimy black and set aside.
Suspension parts get a coat of base color and get set aside.
Interior gets painted in logical sub assemblies, i.e., a seat will be painted before it's attached and the interior tub will be painted before seats are attached.
Turret gets assembed and painted in tha base color.
Hull gets assembled and painted in base color.
Tracks get painted. (depending on indy, rubberbandor workable tracks, assembly may or may not come next.)
Hull, suspension, wheels, and turret get mated.
Camo gets applied.
Gloss coat gets applied before adding decals.
Decals get applied.
Tracks get added along wit tools, etc.
Weathering gets added.
Final dull coat gets added.
Final weathering with pastels.

Here's my side of story

Aircraft:

1. Paint the cockpit
2. Assemble the body and paint it as a whole
3. Now do the minor parts

Tanks

1. Assemble everything that would have the same color althrough (e.g. entire upper and lower hull of T-72 is painted with desert yellow)
2. Now do the smaller parts.

As with interior, I paint the interior first before assembly. Rule of thumb: Paint the interior first hand, assemble the body and then do the minor parts.
