I remember seeing an article about sourcing lead foil from wine bottles. But what do people use it for , he sheepishly asks ?

Set of seat belts, rifle slings, flags if you so choose... The possibilities are endless...

Any fabric. I recently used some as the sides of a fly front for a pair of trousers as part of a scratchbuilt scarecrow (for an ACW vignette.) I also use it for canteen or haversack straps, backpack straps, tie downs, cinching belts, etc.

Ask your dentist. They use lead foil as a backing for "bite wing" X-rays. They can't throw it in the trash because it's considered a hazarous material, so there is usually a box of it sitting around awaiting recycling.

I use the metal tubes that SUPER-GLUE come in once it is all used up. Slice off the top, unroll the bottom and slice down one side and instant metal foil.

I use the foil wrapper off glow-sticks. The glow-stick is less than a buck.
