Hi guys,

Having just turned 40 (yup, it's true) I've suddenly re-discovered my love for modelling. I used to make Tamiya 1/35th armour when I was about 13 and haven't touched it since then (but hey, I got into rock'n'roll and stuff like that - which I still do). But, having had an enormous amount of interest in the 2nd World War I suddenly got this urge to have another go at modelling again. So, after a bit of research on the web and in various magazines and a bit of prompting to my dear wife I now have something to make a start with.

I found this site purely by accident and it's given me so many tips I can't wait to put some of this stuff into practice. A very interesting and seemingly friendly site - thanks to all.

Although not the best place to post this last thing (but hey, I'm on a roll) I got some photo etched parts with my German SP gun crew. Now, and I'm going to sound very, very ignorant here (please bear with me), what are these? I've heard of 'em but have absolutely no clue what they're for?

Thanks in anticipation - really looking forward to making use of this site in the coming months....

Andy

Welcome aboard Andy! Glad to have you back in the saddle - as it were.

The photoetch (PE) parts are for super detailing your kit. They either replace or enhance plastic kit parts because of the detailing limitations of injected plastic and resins.

Hi, welcome to the biggest modelling site on the planet. You will find all your answers here.
If you don't know where PE is used for: it's for superdetailing your vehicles. With PE you can make very small details which are not created with plastic. If you mean something else then you must be more clear about it, just put the question in the general forum and you get some instant response.

Howdy Capt.Zero,

A warm welcome back to modeling, and to the big 'A' as well!

As to your question about what to do with the photoetch grill of parts you got with the german SP. What you do with that is suspend it between a couple of 1/35th scale rocks right beside your SP, and place the sprue of PE so it's suspended between the rocks, then you lite a little 1/35th scale fire, and start to barbeque up a few Brat's!! :-) #:-)

...just kidding Capt.

Tread.
