Jim, the links are coming through on Google Chrome browser with a link now. However, the link is not correct.

In the email, the line that displays with an active hyperlink looks like this:

To view this topic, go to:
https://archive.kitmaker.net/forums/221677

But the actual link is this:

http://mandrillapp.com/track/click.php?u=30214224&id=16d47c9ad9da42f1ae5f517b287dff07&url=http%3A%2F%2Fhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.kitmaker.net%2Fmodules.php%3Fop%3Dmodload%26name%3DSquawkBox%26file%3Dindex%26req%3Dtopicsub%26topic_id%3D221677&url_id=2fcaa6a6a5e38d8dcf819abe65284160a2319471

It appears that the link is tracking using the MailChimp app, or something similar.

David

Note: In the first example above, I performed a cut and paste of the text, not the link. Evidently, the program here recognizes the link, and highlights it accordingly. It is NOT correct in the email that I received.

I was so hopeful when I logged on Today as I could see clickable links again but they are as David says

http://mandrillapp.com/track/click.php?u=30214224&id=7ba577abf0934e91901d1cf4b0cae188&url=http%3A%2F%2Fhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.kitmaker.net%2Fmodules.php%3Fop%3Dmodload%26name%3DSquawkBox%26file%3Dindex%26req%3Dviewtopic%26topic_id%3D221677&url_id=2fcaa6a6a5e38d8dcf819abe65284160a2319471

so do not work, if I copy and paste the link in the email it works if I click on it I get the above.

Cheers Rob.

It does sound as if Jim is onto something though, so hang in there.

Joel,
The only technical 'change' I have made to the formatting of the message is to include both a plain text version and an HTML version of the email. My guess is that Thunderbird is doing something odd with either version and not making the obvious HTTP references links. Not to knock you and Rob at all, but I hadn't heard this mail app mentioned in like 10 years until this thread, so I am fairly sure it's not a widely used mail app these days. That said we are working with Jim S. code here, not a 50 person web development team at a major online company.

It would be helpful if you could forward me a copy of the version you are getting to: [email protected]

I am still planning on making further changes to the format of the HTML messages, so perhaps I can get them working still for you and Rob (and anyone else not seeing them as links).

Thanks,
Jim

Hi Jim,

Can I ask you to undo whatever the very last change you made to the code yesterday, to get the links to work in Thunderbird, as the links now don't work for those of us who don't use Thunderbird?

Instead of going to the thread, the link directs the browser to //mandrillapp.com/***

I will email you a screen shot of the webpage that is brought up after the link is clicked.

Unless there's some other tweak you can make to fix this the rest of us (not using Thunderbird) now have to copy and paste the link, rather than clicking on it.
No offense to Thunderbird users but isn't it better to keep 90% of the people happy than the 10% who use Thunderbird?

I get the feeling you're not going to win, either way Jim...

Nah... it's just an unexpected encryption issue. I can fix it sometime later today.

Jim

Jim,
If it helps, when I click on the link now it does not work but if I add a semicolon after the http it works. Now the semicolon is there in the email it just disappears after clicking the link.

Cheers Rob

Jim,
Thanks for your continued efforts. I realize that I'm in the minority by using Thunderbird, but it's been my mail client for as long as it's been out.

Your latest update now has the links highlighted in blue, and are active. But when I click on them I get a pop up telling me it may be spam. I click ok, and at 1st I'm directed to mandrillapp.com, then it goes to the right thread on Aeroscale. It's better then before, so if this is what it is, it's still better then nothing.

Again, thanks for you continued efforts.

Yes this is happening because I am actually able to track how many people are clicking through, etc. Mandrill is part of Mail Chimp and a very trustworthy company based on my experience with them.

Cheers,
Jim
