With immense sadness that I tell that my dear friend Russell Anderson, "Siderius" on KitMaker, passed away this morning after a sudden illness. His sister was by his side.
Russell was a dedicated 1/72 aircraft modeler. He was one of a handful that models general aviation and airliners. Last autumn he worked hard to make the Bays Mountain Model Show come to fruition. Russell was also a walking encyclopedia of Star Trek and a living textbook on astronomy.
Almost every aircraft-adorned shirt I have came from Russell, as did many of my books. He could quote Ernest K. Gann and other aviation writers.
Russell was a good and loyal friend. We met some 15 years ago at Serious Hobbies; spent hours in my garage while I built my 1/32 ME 262; Finnish Buffalo; Hasegawa P-40 and many others, listening to Art Bell
Coast to Coast AM and Phil Hendrie. He introduced me to the Aztek airbrush.
Russell watched my house while I was away. He took care of my pets. He and a telephone helped me keep alert while driving so many 1,000s of miles cross-country. He could recite
High Flight.
Farewell, Russell.
Quoted Text
One More Roll
We toast our hearty comrades who have fallen from the skies, and were gently caught by God's own hand to be with him on High.
To dwell among the soaring clouds they've known so well before. From victory roll to tail chase, at heaven's very door.
As we fly among them there, we're sure to head their plea. To take care my friend, watch your six, and do one more roll for me.

I can sympathize with you. I have recently lost two family members. Mr. Anderson's family and friends will be remembered in my prayers and toasted with my friends. May all realize that a man, of his caliber, must surely be in a better place.

Sadly I did not know the man very well. He was very complimentive on my Horton built and that was really appreciated. May he rest in peace.

Fred, I am sorry for you and the Anderson family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I enjoyed seeing his work and sharing occasional comments with him.

Sad news indeed, Russell was a much liked member of the Kitmaker family. As Tomcat said, the only negative words I ever saw from Russell were self-criticisms. He was always positive and supportive of others.
Condolences and best wishes to the Anderson family, and to Russell's friends.

I'll miss his enthusiasm and efforts to bring our community together. Fair winds and following seas, Russell.
Fred, please pass along the condolences of the Aeroscale staff. Russell made Aeroscale a better place, and we're poorer for his absence.

I am so sorry to hear about such a loss to our community. I remember Russell well from his time on the site. My condolences to his family and loved ones.
This has been a hard week for many as I just learned that my long-time neighbor lost his wife recently to a sudden illness as well. For those who are even dealing with what they think are just colds or flus, take care of yourselves and get lots of rest and sleep (he says at 1AM and coughing up some wonderful stuff in his lungs from my 4 day old cold).
Yeah... yeah... physician heal thy self. Seriously though guys and gals, take good care of yourselves.
Best wishes,

This is Russell's resting place, up a hill from the airport. The view is almost straight down the runway and clearly visible from the ATC tower, where a friend of Russell works.

Everything about this is so sad. Russell has a fitting final resting place, though, for a man who loved airplanes.

Thank you for posting this Fred.
I was shocked and deeply saddened to read such dreadful news. Since he joined, Russell was at the heart of what makes our community so great with his boundless enthusiasm and willingness to share. He will be deeply missed.
My sincere condolences to his family and many friends.
