What's the diff between an F-8E and an F-8H? Pwede ba nating gamitin ang bagong Academy 1/72 E? Konting revision lang ba? Thanks!

The most obvious difference is dun sa top part ng tail fin may additional na pod.

Other differences are minor: the shape of the forward port vents near the nose, certain panels, a notch on the refueling probe pod, the instrument panel, etc. etc.

Buck is helping me with the tail fin thingy

BTW buck, nanotice ko na parang hiwalay yung wings sa main fuselage. Could it be that it has scratchbuilt interior to boot?

All F-8 kits have its wing separated

The F8 has a unique air braking system where the whole wing is jacked up. This increases the angle of attack of the wing without sacrificing the visibility required to land on a carrier... and at the same time dramatically slows the plane for a soft carrier landing.

This system is unique to the F-8 Crusader, I believe. Makes it really special

Jeep & Lattex,

The F-8H is a remanufactured and updated version of the F-8D. The F-8E has a bigger radar, necessitating a more bulbous nose. AFAIK only the ESCI came out with a 1/72 F-8H, but its actually still an E. I shaved off some plastic and sanded the nose to make it more pointed. But the difference is not very noticeable in 1/72, especially since all PAF F-8s have black radomes.

Lattex is right about the tail pod. For some time I thought this was peculiar to PAF F-8Hs, but subsequent research shows that some US Hs had them, and that it was not something we developed or something.

Shonen,
It has some, yes. I planned on doing a full detailing on the interior of the variable incidence wing box but I discovered, upon dry fitting, that in 1/72 you can hardly see the interior. LOL.

Hey Junior,

It's good that you're back on track with your F-8H. Hiram ng pics after your project. I have'nt started mine yet. The rumours of the academy 1/72 kit coming out soon is a cause of build delay. Can't wait to see your finished F-8H.

Bistro,

Sure! Bender will be going there too but, we haven't set the sched yet, i'll be biking from my place after work just to shed some fat along the way, likely he'll be biking too.

text natalie last week, the Academy F-8E will be available by mid-may, i had one reserved.

buck's kit gave the inspiration, the ESCI and Kangnam kits both have similar flaws, seeing his F-8H gave hope.

Junior,

Great! We'll add that to our database. Ill hand you my photo collection of the Huey for scanning when next we meet. Ive got a lot of photos of the engine compartment and access panels.

R2,

Welcome aboard, my friend! Glad to have you here in Armorama.

Jeep,

You and Junior got me all excited about the Academy F-8. I hope its worth the wait. Id like to see one in PAF markings.

Sayang lang the PAF had to retire the F-8s early. Who knows what other unusual camoflage they could have painted on the Crusader.
