TO ALL EFFICANT ones,
How in the world of plastic, do I scratchbuild a screw form like the type for a post whole digger aka AUGER. The central shaft is the easy part of just a rod, but the screw part must be continuous and curve around the central shaft at the same time it moves downward. Been scratchin my head for awhile on this one.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. THE FOX

what scale?
You know, when you drill into plastic?, the part that is removed, (ie...the shavings) might resemble the "screw" blade thingy your in need of. If your careful and keep it in one piece. Try different sizes/types of drill bits. When i used to build furniture, an auger bit would make a shaving that i think would do the trick. Glued to a central shaft, the piece shoud get you pretty close. Find a solid block of plastic or at least a thick piece...maybe a childs toy that would be willing to make the sacrafice and test drill into it.
goodluck
(great, now i'm gonna have to go try this out cause it's a challenge and i want to see if it werks)

SCREW FORM,
Thanks to all for the feedback. I do apologize for the lack of info. We are talking 1/35 scale, brail would be out of the question. LOL I will post a pic for all to see that will hopefully give our creative sides more energy. I 've thought about this for quite some time and I cant think of a way to make the shape that would allowit to be continuous without any seems. COME ON GUYS we can do it , this aint an ATOMIC Bomb LOL.
Now the item in question is the Auger bit on top of the side of the vehicle. This is used to bore holes in mother earth. HMMMMMMM how do I plud in an image. TODD

Fox,
Have you considered using plastic worm gears. Maybe the RC guys can help you here. Or just do a Google on plastic worm gears.

How about getting yourself a nice long drywall screw?
They come in several diameters, and they come in rather long lengths,
and they all have a rather thin diameter center shaft. Try simply cutting the center scetion to the length required.

You can try paper - draw out spiral and cut it shape or
go to a DIY store and look for drywall anchors. Some are now coming in auger shapes. You may be able to find one in the right shape and just cut off the spiral part.
Just go to the DIY store and look where are the screws and nails are near the picture hanging stuff. Ask someone for drywall anchors and they'll show you the way.

Every machine shop has barrels full of "chips". These look like an auger without the center post. Careful! They are sharp!

I think grumpyoldman has got it. Either that or do the paper thing. Or, you could cut a spiral using stiff aluminum?

Depending on the size needed I would simply go to Home Depot (or a Hardware store) and find the plastic screws they use for toilet bowl seat cover or similar plastic screws and get the one that matches the closest.
The drill press I scrathbuilt for the "Hunter or Hunted" Diorama was from parts I found at the hardware store, the transaxle of a old Jeep model and a broken mini drill bit.
Gunt luck,
