List- Got the Tamiya M4A3 Late prod at Hobby Lobby for $16.07 yesterday. They also had 2 Tamiya M48A3 kits for $16.79, Is this a good kit for a good price?

Chief, at $16.07 the Tamiya M4A3 "Late Production" is an excellent price. It's a very nice kit - all considered. Here's a review of it by Andrew Dextras from ML:

Tamiya M4A3 "Frontline Breakthrough

I'm assuming that you really just wanted to know about the M48A3.
The M48A3's price is pretty good as well. Our ver own Tin Can has built the kit and is more quallified to answer than I. It should be in the gallery. Here's a review...sort of, it's a backdating article by Mike Millette.

The Tamiya M48A3 is a classic kit of the frontline tank in use by the US Army and USMC during Vietnam. Recommended kit and a bargin at under $20.

I didn't get the version "Front Line Breakthrough" but it is a good looking kit. Will have to do something with the wheels, don't like only 1/2 of a detailed wheel. If they still have the M48 on friday, It's mine!

Does anyone know if the CMD M48A1 is still available, and where I could get it? My father also served on M48/M48A1s in Germany (late 50s & early 60s) as a new 2LT, and his memories are clearly some of his most cherished. I would love to build one for him if I could get the conversion.

While we are on the topic, how about references? I haven't had much luck running down good pics or drawings of the A1, and particularly the jettisonable fuel tank/drums on the rear. Anyone have suggestions for books or other sources?

On saturday past I bought 2 mutt jeeps [Academy](one with trailer) for less than £5 each. There are 4 figures in each set. Although the same figures, with some swapping of arms etc. it could be quite exciting. It also includes a mortar waith each set. Brilliant value for money. At the end f the day, after 9 months modelling. its better to get experience with cheap figures and kits like this instead of ruining expensive resin figures.
