Bandleader Glenn Miller joined the flood of young Americans enlisting in the army in 1942 and was ordered to form a new 42-piece all-star band to entertain service personnel. With the liberation of Paris in 1944, a series of Miller concerts was planned. But when Captain Miller took off on a short hop across the English Channel to Paris on December 15, he was never seen again. No wreckage was found and no official explanation given.
