Is the cellulose thinners you buy in car hops ect the same as humbrol cellulose thinners or are the car ones more stronger

I've never bothered with Humbrol's (or any manufacturer's) thinners.... :-)

It may be the "same" but actually different in composition. Dont ask me to explain, cause i cant. I tried quite a few thinners at the start to find a cheaper solution to humbrols. Some may have come close but nothing can beat it. During washes on figures ... the proof is in the pudding. You can see the pigments clumping .. or even scattering along a detail rather than flowing like when using humbrols.
Here in Sweden, some guys have tried several times to persuade me to try Balsamic terpentine .... as they reckon its the same. Its available from art supply stores. I will ask one of those guys to bring a little for me so I can try it out and compare. Until then, I leave you with this thought! We have our IPMS meeting on the first wednesday every month. My father brought me some industrial thinner from his work and his is the best and cheapest

:-) I used to use Humbrol enamel thinners, but it works out expensive. I now use white spirit or cellulose thinners for humbrol paints. I usually only use them for detail painting now though :-)
