Theres an aspect I think should be taken into consideration - we have a large number of members who are actively blogging the builds they make. These blogs I would guess attrackts alot of views ? - I know I like to follow them!

A good blog is easily 40 - 60 pictures - so an active blogger would soo use up the space availeble - leading to deleting pictures to free space. That would "destroy" older blogs, which often still attracts readers.

As such I dont have any problem supporting this site - used to be A-guard myself, but I think there might be a conflict between generating a lot of traffic to the site by blogging and having to pay for storage to facilitate blogging ?

It's a conspiracy Bob. I'll bet they're all in there right now sitting around smoking cigars and talking about us.

that is a bit tricky of course. I guess that it would be too cynical to make contributors pay for the effort of providing content.

Here are a few options for extra services that I have seen requested lately (i'll add more if i find more):

- model inventory service
- private person stock auction service (giving a small percentage to the site)
- scale conversion calculator
- model build blog service
- Advanced gallery for finished models (in folders by model)
- Walkaround section
- CMS for clubs, local hobby stores or private persons
- database linking all related topics allowing to find all information on a given subject with one click
- paint conversion and comparison software
- on-line high quality model building university

- a high quality calendar each year; a low quality preview on the site and anyone who pays gets a glossy professional (made by specialised companies) calendar in the mail, can even be combined with special series for a local hobby store or club.
- digital print-outs (like e.g. the photoshopped concrete slabs that were on aeroscale last year) (same as above)
- Print service making home made decals (same as above)

- 3D printing?

of course, we need to take into account that making all that soft is not a trivial thingy

That's ok, the wife and I were just out in the breezeway smoking our marlboros and talking about them.... ...in a good way of course!

Lol... the discussion is getting more crowded as we speak.

Seriously though if you hadn't noted the thread I started earlier today. The subscription option is up and working. Just click on your username in the upper right corner.

Cheers,
Jim

1)I've used photo bucket for quite a while now so those dreaded "red X" things aren't an issue for folks{don't ya just hate those things!}
2)Adding content/builds is my thing {if you like semi trucks/sci-fi/cars} and occasionaly finishing them is an added bonus too!
3)I'd support the site sans the added storage use I think...till photo bucket cuts me off...

1)- they "could" toss us an occasional gift{s} for advertising here or even for our contest prizes....those companies could use a write off - right?{who doesn't}...could be monthly drawings from such freebies for the subscribers?
2)ooooh, sign me up!

Jim, if I may, if you want to have a value-added service that modeller's will pay for then consider arranging with your advertisers a "club" were the members will receive discounts. This has true value for modellers in the real world which we would gladly pay for.

Technically it is simple to implement. All you would need to do is generate a ID number and expiration date for the modeller. This list must be sent to each participating vendor. When the modeller purchases something from the vendor they quote their ID number, the vendor checks it and issues the discount. Obviously the membership fee could be more than you stated above.

I should use this on my site too :-)

Paul.
