Hello all,

I am in the design phase of a small Vietnam War vignette and it will require an extensive use of jungle vegetation. I know that there are various manufacturers offering different types of jungle vegetation but due to cost I would like to make my own. I would like to include Filicales (fern) in my vignette but have no idea how to make a convincing looking one.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Martin, I can't recall what it's called, but at a place like Franks or Hobby Lobby, there is a product they use for covering up the top dirt area to keep moisture in. It looks like a bunch of tangled roots and such, but if you pull it apart slowly you will find parts of what looks like small ferns. I glue them together working from large (at the bottom) to the smaller ones (up top) and just paint. If you find this stuff you'll want to use glyceren to keep it from drying out. When it dries, it is very brittle. The stuff I have, I've had for god knows how long and I don't think I'll ever run out.

you could try using the smallest fronds or sections of fronds from real fern leaves. if you can find the right looking leaf they do work quite well.I have made bracken using real bracken with some success myself, mind it was a bit fiddly
