Is Microset just vinegar? It smells like it. If it is, man I would quit spending money!!

Hi Chip
I think I read somewhere that it is (or that vinegar is a major ingredient).
Why not do a test with a spare decal on scrap plastic and report the result? It would be a great addition to the "Free (well, cheap) Supplies" thread.
All the best

That is possibly right ... every time I have to use it is inevitable to say "gosh it smells like cr@p". That was probably it, vinegar.

I had this same thought once, and, since my decal setting solution was running a bit low, decided to add some vinegar to see if it was the same stuff. I didn't have very good results with it though, although I'd like to see what someone else has to report on the matter. Maybe through experimentation a solution could be figured out. Perhaps vinegar with a bit of Future or some other random additive would work.

I think that it's not pure vinegar. If it's smelling like that is more likely that it's acetic acid (which is also contained in vinegar), the one used for instance in photography as a fixative. Compared to Microset is definitely a lot cheaper (I think that for the same price you can have 500 cc. of acetic acid). The only one thing is to look for the right dilution factor...

200 pesos per bottle of Microset or Microsol here and they disappear as soon as they become available in the single store that sells them. Would really be good if someone finds an alternative.

Guys,
To check if this is pure acetic acid (yes, that's vinager) contact the home company and request a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) or SDS (Safety Data Sheet within the EU). It will list the percentages of the hazardous ingredients
