SO while thinking about how long it takes me to finish a project it occured to me that it just takes too D*&M long! I can re-tile a bedroom in a weekend, but It takes 4-6 weeks to take some pieces of plastic & make it look like something . So just for fun and curiosity, how many models do you complete in a year. I was going to title it "in a month", but I realized my score card would tally a big fat ZERO for a month. I seem to average 2 finished projects a season. Is that good, bad, average? I'm part of the "just getting back into it" crowd here so I just don't know. Curious to see the responses. Thanks & Enjoy!!!!

Since coming back to the hobby 6 years ago, I've averaged about 3 a year. This year though I've completed nothing. I have two builds done waiting for paint/decals/weathering. Just can't motivated to finishing them up.

The last 2-3 years has seen 2 finished projects per year. They usually contain base and figures though.
Im hoping for quality rather than quantity .... although a friend keeps reminding me that quantity is a quality in itself!

So far this year I have finished 5 projects , which is more then the year before . It really depends if I just build out of the box or let AMS take over it can be a few months before something is finished .

October 2009 just was my 10 year anniversary of getting seriously back into modelling, and my wife and I were counting my completed builds. It came out to 7.5 a year, that takes into consideration all sizes and scales.

I've only been limbering back up the past couple of years, but the past 12 months have been peculiar: so far with personal modeling, I have two finished projects with another three nearing completion.

However, a work-related commission required eighteen 1:48 helicopters and a 1:144 aircraft carrier. Whew!

Here's looking to a robust 2010.

I haven't finished a model in 3 years and precious few the 5 years before that. For the last 10 years, I'd say no more than 4 or 5. Total.

Waaay too many other things to do in my life.

Hello Sean, the answer is not nearly as many as I would like. Time and tide (and the wife) wait for no man, or modeler. It depends on the project and how involved it is. I've been working on the crew for a 1/35 PT boat. If you count each crewmen as one model then it is eight, if you count the whole boat as one model, then it is one completed model (almost) this year. I usually average two to four a year. Al

I haven't finished a model since about October 2007

I have however started a few, reviewed even more, relocated my family inter-continentally, and moved house twice since arriving in Australia That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

I started modeling at the end of last year and since then have completed three dioramas that each have two to three vehicles and a dozen plus figures and have four others in various stages of construction plus two larger ones in the planning and aquisition stages.

My count so far this year is 5. Four of those were leftovers from last year or even older. I'm hoping on another one done this year, making it 6. That's way above average I would think... I have 2 projects on the go and 3 on hold right now.

Cheerio!

Thanks to all for the entertaining replies. What I'm getting from all of this is that modeling is like home improvement projects. We start too many, finish too few, and at the heart of it all are the women in our lives !!!! Ain't life grand! Cheers & Enjoy.

This got to think on the models I have completed so far this year - 11 kits so far. 10 tank models and one sci-fi model.

I normally get 8-10 done a year, but my plastic stack seems not to go down much. Part of it this year was my brother decided to get out of model building and gave me his finish and still-in-the-box kits that added to my pile. And a hobby store was closing and I went and got some kits, one I was looking for and another that, 'hey, I need that.'

My desire is to do one more tank this year, but which one.....?

I've always had a problem finishing models. I've got quite a few that I started years back and haven't finished for various reasons and in my experience finishing them is the hardest part, especially if you're really fussy like me. That's one of the reasons I like to have just about everything in the box so I don't have to go looking around for bits here and there. The more complete the kit I buy is the better. I've hardly started any new kits this year just finishing off older ones for a change. Let's face it........for most people they just take way too long to make.

I used to be able to do one a month with one to two hours a day time spent on it. However, as I've gotten more PE and skill to correct things, I'm up to about two months for a larger build.

Being retired has its perks. I build fast. Always have. Somethings I will take more time on than others, but for the most part, once I am in a groove..I just keep going until I can't go any further without seriously dicking something up. Sometimes it bites me, most times not. Since returning to school full time my building sessions have slowed down a bit. Nothing like swapping 8 hours of bench time for 8 hours of Ecology homework/studying etc. I still find time to get in some time. The hard part is choosing a subject to work on. I have soooo many that I want to do it becomes more of a challenge to find one to go with. "Q"

..since returning to modelling seriously around 2-3 years ago - which I really put down to discovering Armorama/Aeroscale etc - I've been managing about one a month. But so far I've only built in the smaller scales and I'm literally throwing them together in the hope that I can quickly build on my 'skill' base and take on some more challenging builds. One day I will say to myself yes, I'm ready for that 48th Academy Su27.... Then I imagine things will slow right down...
