IPMS-Philippines: Bert Anido Chapter

These guys do very good work. Saw the bald bearded guy last week at Lil's Megamall buying a DML Morser Karl and ordering a Trumpeter 1/350 Hornet aircraft carrier.

Are there other IPMS Philippines Chapters or groups aside from them?

I think they're the only chapter in the Philippines. They renamed their chapter when one of their founding fathers died last May.

Can a 13 year old like me join IPMS even if I'm still an amateur?

You may email them if you have questions. They invited us to join at last year's Motorex and we filled up an application form. Nothing came out of it though.

What Jeep said. Also, they meet one Sunday per month at the UP Fine Arts Centre in UP Diliman. Jeep, Crismag, and those who were at Motorex last year, have they given you the certificate of appreciation already? I haven't.

What certificate of appreciation? A feedback form will be more useful

Is it possible to establish another scale modelling club? When I surf the internet, it seems that in the US there are several IPMS chapters. Just curious.....

Warthog: well, we would start first by making Articles of Incorporation, then going to the SEC for registration as a non-profit, seeking-world-domination, organization, then need to vote for our own officers... oops, got meself carried away with me law studies hehehehe

SR: Not much info as I'm not a member of IPMS-Philippines. All I know they meet once every month, as I said, in the UP Fine Arts building, UP Diliman. I reckon, they, like the SCMP of blitz, have a resource library, and maybe perhaps even inside-competitions, i.e. IPMS members do little contests of their own.

Jeep: I did receive only one or two email(s) from Byron Lee (I think it was Byron Lee) regarding a meeting for October. But after that, no more. Didn't attend one meeting because it is just too far away and I ain't got no time. BTW, re:certs of appreciation, they had already several on the end date of the exhibit, but mine wasn't there. Maybe crismag got his? While rifling through the certs, we found one or two of the participants were women. I wonder if they were good looking. Sayang wala sila.

... thanks for the update on IPMS.. i do recall a few faces.. Ping Malay,Desi Reyes,Jim Gonzales ..and some were from (defunct) SMCP.. sorry if i forgot the name of the others.. they're really approachable people so you don't have to worry about it...
honestly about creating a club is not a bad idea. you don't need to register with SEC as long as you guys are having fun and share the same objectives .. that's what modelling is for! you just have to pick a venue, a subject and the whole thing is endless..
Believe it or not here in the local hobby shops they have a seminar on basic modelling, airbrush tech and subjects on figures.. in which i am really interested !!! the whole thing is endless .. when i bought an ALPHA IMAGE MODEL WORKSHOP resin figure http://alphaimagemodelworkshop.com/ i checked the packaging and saw the address.. it's just a block away from our place. I immediately called the guy Vince Wai(he came from HK) and man! he's such a nice person we had a long chat (as if we have known each other for a long time) he even told me that in Vancouver there's one well known Filipino-Canadian who does sculpting and his subjects are mainly on Samurai warriors!! Vince also invited me to their group discussion next week (getting excited!!) --i'll update you on this!!
so my point is ...just feel free to discuss your views and ideas with fellow modelers..

Those classes sound like fun blitz! Sad that the hobby shops here don't offer the same benefits

Desi Reyes is one mean superdetailer. And to think that he scratchbuilds most of the parts himself. I saw his F-4 Phantom engine at Motorex last year and I was struck speechless. Inspiring work to say the least

a year ago i invited Desi to come to Doha Qatar, to work as an architectural modelmaker but somehow things didn't work out .. i was really in a rush to get a pinoy as what my employer asked me to do.. to hire pinoy (kasi magagaling nga tayo!!)
Desi Reyes is by profession an artist UST grad. i remember he used to display all his works in most of the hobby stores of Winston Chua(STC)

You know what, looking at the site, and seeing the armor gallery, I felt really really really small, as in non-existent, as in "I'm not worthy to build this pile of plastic hidden in my closet"

Seriously, looking at their work made me feel unworthy to build - nay, TOUCH! - any plastic model. Hell, when I walked into the Motorex exhibit carrying my dio and saw the damn good builds there, I wanted to cover my entry with a blanket and quietly, stealthily, try to make my way towards the exit in the hopes that no one saw it. Really. I'm not sh*tting.

hey GI ! don't be dishearten. anybody here in this forum will likewise say that...You may have a trick or technique that the other guys don't know . and everybody have personal styles.
and like i said this guys are 10 to 15 yrs ahead of you ..way too much experience!!! Desi is pushing into mid 40's. (mas matanda pa sa akin hehehehe)
when i joined SMCP i was just observing and i do come early in club meetings just to check all the reference materials (favs then was FSM, Mil-Mod and "how to-___ ") i just couldn't believe that there are techniques that i missed. But know iba na andito na "IP(internet)" andyan ang information, reference, dicussion group, file sharing ..it's endless.. it's all up to you!!!..kaya nga andito forum para tulong -tulong tayo di ba!!

Yeah Blitz, but I also thought at that time, "Hell, no one and I mean NO ONE has made a diorama of tall field grass yet" and true enough, there wasn't like it in the contest so in a way mine was unique hehehehe

Methinks I already saw this one last year. I could be mistaken though.

Hoo wee! Ganda ng gawa!

GIBeregovoy: Sa 'yo pala yung 2 Abrams going thru the tall grass. I remember asking you how much you spent for that. I also recall your diorama was one of the more popular ones because I could see a lot of visitors really taking a close look. Ganda ng gawa mo pare. Some even took photographs of your work! Yes, that was me who emailed you - thanks for remembering my name. Jeepney knows the reason for the lack of follow-ups. Re: Certificates of Appreciation for the Nationals - Motorex was responsible for the Certificates & we did ask them about the missing ones. They promised to produce them but they never got back to us. I'm not even sure if they're still in business.

Fritz: Yes, you're welcome to join us. No minimum age requirement, basta modeler. Please visit us on Sunday, Nov. 30 at UP Diliman College of Fine Arts around 2:00pm. Look for Mr. Hunter.

Warthog: The Club has a lot of plans for the future, establishing Chapters is one of them. Talk to us. Join us. We are not what people think we are. We're all modelers. Hope to meet you soon.

Jeepney: My apologies for not getting back to you immediately after the Nationals. As I explained to you on the phone I was going thru a particularly difficult time in my life. Your application is with me. We'll be honored to have all of you on board! I'm sure we will all learn a thing or two from you guys. From what I could see in your galleries you're all better modelers than me! Share your building tips naman. What model did you enter in the Nationals?

GIBeregovoy: We have a couple of lawyers in the Club. Buck you already met. The other is Vinny Ibarra, the guy who built the Tornado. Magagaling talaga mag-build ang mga lawyers. We need more!

Fritz: I should've added, "building skill is not a requirement..." Look at me, I hardly get to build anything. B-D

Thanks for the kind words. (actually, it looks good behind the glass, otherwise... hehehehehe #:-) )

hehehe! And I remember getting some flak for spelling it incorrectly!

As for the lawyer=good model builder... well, I'm not yet a lawyer, still studying at law school hehehehe so I don't count hehehehe #:-)

I can only wish that the time and effort I do on my models (which is a lot) are the same as I do for my studying (which is, well...) Sigh... model building... it's not just a hobby... it's a CURSE (espcially for the student)! #:-)

GIBeregovoy: Aha, so you're the one. I vaguely remember that. Pasensiya ka na pare, as I explained to Jeepney that was a particularly nasty time in my life that I'm glad is over. Medyo nakakaahon na ako ngayon. Please accept my apologies.

Just keep building & in time you'll get better and will be winning contests soon. As they say...practice makes perfect 'di ba? I should take that advice myself...hehehe.

I'll definitely try to go this Sunday Hunter! You guys have cleared up a lot of misconceptions and we'd be honored to be part of your group

My entries to the Nationals were an OOB 1/72 Academy Tomcat and an OOB 1/35 DML Kettenkrad. Katabi pa ng Tomcat ko was another Academy Tomcat with exactly the same decals hehe The event was a learning experience
