First class sir! No bought aftermarket item is of better quality than this little gem. I guess you have a resin manhole cover or will you scratch that as well? Great base for a few figures or small vehicle! This could be sold professionally if a mold was made! Great work!!

This is going to be the base for my second entry into Small-N-Big figure campaign. I am going to add some rubble and have a figure standing in close proximity to the hole. That's all I am going to say for now.

Both the manhole rim and cover are resin. I contemplated scratch building them but I am starting to run out of time. Perhaps next time.

I am glad you think so. This piece is one of a kind and I probably should make a mold of it. Than again it was quite easy to create so making another one would not be a problem.

Thanks for your comments.

Very nice Marty.
You started with a big piece of plaster I assume?
Please describe some of the steps involved in the building of this.

Thanks,

Andrew

Andrew, this base is a casting of sorts. I made the basic layout, including the raised section of sidewalk and the sewer opening using plastalina (non hardening clay). I then poured plaster over it. I let that set for a couple of hours and then scribed the cobble stones and the sidewalk stones using a dull nail held in a hand vise. The scribing had to be done while the plaster was still relatively wet. If I had waited until it was completely dry, the scribing process would have been a lot more difficult.

Exceptional work. Good paint job, too. You're a master diorama man.
