Hello Stranger

Welcome to armorama. Enjoy the site, its full of helpful, friendly people as you've already seen.

You can spend hours "researching" here or as my other half says "wasting time" looking at the tips, tricks, and techniques on offer. Not forgetting the informative blogs.

Happy modelling

All the best

Alan

Hi

Well it's a sorry tale of too much trying to get things perfect and never being happy with the result.

That combined with some serious real life stuff to get sorted. Redundancy in 2007 caused some real headaches and getting any help from the state was a joke. But I was lucky in that I could if job applications ran dry (and they did, welcome to a world that only wants the under thirties) I could go back to freelancing which I have done. Been a bit of a roller coaster but getting there I hope. It's building a client base back up that has been the hardest part, once they use me the first time I get repeat work, but it's dependant on how busy they are.

But that's enough of the boring stuff, back to modelling.

At the moment I'm trying to get my act together and not buy any more kits until I finish what's on the bench. Yes, if I'd made it a new years resolution it would be broken long ago but in my defence I've brought stuff for future projects, like a beautiful Tristar flak to go on my Opel Maultier replacing the kit supplied one, and some bargains I just couldn't pass by, AFV Club guns at less than half price.

I'm slowly, due to work commitments, starting to build a very old Italeri kit of a Panzer IV. Why I know you'll scream, knowing your "love" of Italeri, but I want to use it as a test bed trying out techniques and methods without cocking up a lovely £30+ Dragon kit.

I've had some wonderful help from Grant (Vanhall) who has sent me some great images to add detail to the somewhat bare Italeri kit. But to be fair the kit is probably older than you are, brought from Beatties for £2.40p in my days as a real modeller

So far I've added some wield detail to the turret and will look to add more to the hull etc. I'm hoping it'll scrub up nicely as they say. Not sure about after market stuff as if I go to that expense I might as well have brought a Tristar or Dragon kit in the first place !!

I also brought a tripod at Christmas for the camera. This is all leading up to me, hopefully, being able to take pictures and share my crappy efforts with my fellow modellers. Got to figure out this close picture taking stuff though.

Anyway see your quick of the mark with a blog, not letting the grass grow.....good luck with the Tiger and paras, maybe a France 1944 scene on the way? The uniform camo's going to be a challenge. Oh, that's the other thing I've struggling with, figure painting. Can't get the results I want !! so frustrating.

See ya

Alan
