Yesterday I saw a docu on BBC about the battle of El Alamein and they where talking about Monty's deception plan ‘’Operation Bertram’’.

They showed a Sherman tank concealed as a lorry by adding a frame and painted canvas.

This gives a nice dio idea, but unfortunaly I was not able to tape the show.
Dos anybody know of a website containing more information (pictures) about ‘’Operation Bertram’’?

One of the people behind this masquarade was a British magician by the name of Jasper Maskelyne. I read a book a number of years ago called "The War Magician" which outlines this and other ruses that he was involved with. (believe it's OOP) But I was just reading today that it's coming out in a new movie starring Tom Cruise???? Might be interesting to see if they follow the story or break off into too much Hollywood.

He certainly wouldn't be my first choice given the subject matter. I've yet to see him in a movie that has a fact based core... but who knows? I only hope that they stay true to the facts and don't fictionalize the story too much.

I don't think I'd have Tom anywhere on the list for this part myself. Having read the book, maybe Anthony Hopkins would be far more appropriate.

Perhaps even Liam Neeson, or Patrick Stewart. Someone with a more classical acting background.

Tom Cruise is the bid to rack in more money. He has "star" power. You can bet they'll bugger this up like they did with Windtalkers

Good choices Mike but I'm afraid Blaster76 probably has it right .... it will turn into another Windbreakers
