A great actor and American for sure. His life was pretty amazing. I can't help but wonder if some left winger will show up at his funeral to pry the gun from his cold, dead hands (for those who may not know, this is in reference to a speech Mr. Heston made as the president of the National Rifle Association).

I think Yul Brenner had those lines.

How about this one: "Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!"

He was a great actor. He also was a great American. His views might have been unpopular in some circles, but he stuck to his “guns”. Not many people are willing to do that today, especially if they are in the public eye.

I was thinking more of a final statement about Charlton Heston's life, not so much attributing the quote to him. I think it speaks to all that can be written, thought and spoken about him as well as the finality of it all. Regardless of his views, he was a great talent and he will be missed.

OR "It's a MAD HOUSE, A MAD HOUSE!"

I hear that one everytime I walk in the door at work.

R.I.P. Mr. Heston.

One of my favorites. A lot of his movies are on my "always watch them when they come on" list.

Who can ever forget him as President of the NRA - standing in defiance of the gun grabbers with that flintlock raised above his head - in that distinct and clear voice - "FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS!"

Sends chills down my spine just writing this.

Charlton Heston was more than just the President of the NRA, he marched with Dr. Martin Luther King when that wasn't fashonable, he was President of the Screen Actors Guild, he was a Democrat until as he once said, "I didn't leave the Democrat Party it left me."

He was a WWII Veteran, he was a conservative, he was a patriot, an actor, husband, father and grandfather - he is a man for the ages and we are not likely to see his kind again.

Charlton Heston - Rest in Peace
