How would one go about making fish in 1:35 scale? I am talking about small fish you can find in a pond or a lake.

I made an eel in 1/25 out of milliput. I'd mix up some two part epoxy and roll it out in strings. Squeeze it flatter at top and bottom to get an ovid shape. Taper the head and tail by shaping with your fingers. Pinch the back to make a dorsal fin and pinch the tail to do the tail fin. Caudal fins may not show that much, especially if your looking from about through water. Paint to match the type of fish you're representing. A foot long fish will only be about 4 mm in length in this scale and maybe 1 mm tall.

Wow !! Is that mean we'll see some golden or tricolor "koi"s within few days, huh? :-)

I would got the millput route or carve it out of something. Good idea, kinda a fishy solution though!

My Splash Dio is going to have a pair of fish in it.
I used Sculpy bakable clay. I simply rolled a small piece and then tapered the ends. I added flat pieces for fins and a tail. Then baked it and sculpted in a mouth, gills, and eyes.
Then painted them.

Scott, this is why I am thinking about making fish. I want to have a couple in my Splash dio. BTW how are you doing with coloring resin? Are you getting the desired effect?

Marty,
I got a package of Rit wine color and tried it last night. It might be a bit to burgandy. So I need to go back and try to mix and match colors. I'm trying to get to a redish mudd color.
I'm holding on to going without color if that doesn't make the right color.

Ok ..... what's going on here.

We got Chicklets and Split Peas in the Armour Forum. We got Fish in Scratchbuilding Talk.

Are we going to have to get Jim to make a "Grub Forum" here or what? #:-)

I am probably going to stick with clear resin. My water isn't going to be all that deep so trying to pour in colored layers might be tricky.

Gotta love this site!!! Fish, Pink Tanks, Leopard Hunting Figures!!!!!

::ok Scott step away from the glue::

Marty - I did a bunch of resin testing this weekend. One thing you need to be careful of when 'drowning' your fish is that they will naturally (or is that unaturally) want to float to the surface of the 'water'. So either connect them to something or do a two layer pour with the fish sandwhiched in between.

Scott, thanks for the pointer. I was actually wondering whether this was going to be an issue.

My sister was making artificial food in Sculpy last winter. Check out:

Making Miniature Food and Market Stalls by Angie Scarr (available at Amazon.com)

The scale is much bigger than 1/35, but the techniques might be adaptable.
