In your country, what is the standard weapons used there by infantry?
Here in the Philippines, I think we used the M16 the most followed by the M14. Thanks

Yup.. Agree with Shonen Red...
M-16's, M-14's, and even the old classic M1 Garand is still used here in our country...
Not to forget the M-60 Machine Gun...
These weapons are standard issues of the AFP...

I don't think the M1 Garand is still in service. They use dummy instead

The US issue varies depending on what kind of unit you are in.
The typical infantry rifle is the M4 Carbine (collapsible stock, shortened version of the M16A2). You will find full size M16A2's anywhere that the M4 isn't used.
I have been reassigned to a Combat Engineer unit for Operation Iraqi Freedom and our weapon assignments are as follows:
Company Command Staff
-Commander- M9 Beretta 9mm Pistol
-First Sergeant-M4
-Executive Officer-M4
-Operations Sergeant-M16A2
-Supply Sergeant-M16A2
Platoon Sergeants and Platoon Leaders have M4's
Squad Leaders(staff sergeant E-6)-M16A2
Team Leaders(sergeant E-5) have M16A2's with M203 grenade launchers
Each squad has one M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW) also known as the Minimi
The remaining company personnel have M16A2's
The company has one .50 cal machine gun and one MK. 19 Mod III 40mm grenade machine gun.
AT-4 anti-armor weapons are issued on an as needed basis. There are not any M240 7.62mm machine guns in the company Table of Organization and Equipment at this time.

Of course it's Kalashnikov! Since the middle of 90-s we have the nev version in service -- AK-74M. They received the new handguapd and buttstock made from black plastik. Also we have the new AN-94 assault rifle but it's still in test use by some our units. I don't like that thing -- it's too complex in construction, assembly/disassembly procedures are unconvinious... Any course I cpent more than 15 years in Soviet/Russian military with my AKS-74 and need nothing more
Other things are GPMG PKM, LMG RPK-74 (hate it -- it's nothing more than long-barreled Kalashnikow, too light to be an MG and too long and bulky for the use as a rifle...)

In addition, special forces use the Garand light 50, and various versions of the M16. The SA80, in its first generation was a piece of junk. The A2 version is infinitely better. Minimi is gradually getting adopted as the squad weapon, although with the lack of defence spending I'm sure there are still Lewis guns around......Jim #:-)

The Kalashnikov is the world's most popular assault rifle, right?
Plastic parts? Hmm..So the AK-74M is lighter in weight?
Just curious..^__^

Not really -- maybe just for some couple of gramms. And I don't like that plastic parts. Especially that ugly forward handguard -- the wooden one was much more comfortable...

the golden oldie gpmg is still in use was withdrawn then made a come back as the lsw didn't give enough support same with the 50 cal bet the MOD wishes the'd kept the ones
from ww2, browing hp still in use the only reason the sa80 got into service as at the time
cause it was a case of it's not invented here syndrome could have had te fal 5.56 did you
know that SA80 was around in 1949 the army even looked at it but for some reason didnt take it up looked a little different but the design was enhanced from the 49 model
and as for still having lewis guns well in 1994 my unit still had the bren/lmg think we were
the last unit to still have them and stirling smgs
I've seen some picutes of the usmc using gpmgs why is this do they think it's a better weapon than the m60?
:-) :-)

:-) You are right Mike, although of course it wasn't the "SA80" but the "bullpup" version of the SLR. IE, the magazine and feed mechanism, behind the pistol grip. This design allows for the same length barrel but an overall shorter weapon. Believe it or not the reason that the SLR was adopted in favour of the "bullpup" design was purly on the basis of ease of drill, crazy.
The SA 80 is very accurate, originally it was of 4.48 calibre and was even more accurate. It had to be re-designed as 5.56 because it was beating everything in the tests to find a standard weapon for NATO so the Americans insisted that any standard rifle had to be 5.56.

Back home (Israel) we mainly used M16 and Glilon (and Israeli version of the ak-47 and M16 safety). prior to that we used the infamous Uzi.

The standard issue weapon every grunt in The Finnish Defence Forces knows is the Kalashnikov based RK-62 (and its successors). For some reason none of the pictures on the page look exactly like the "fiancee" I used. Overall it's a very nice and simple rifle.

BTW, when I last visited Singapore, (around December of 2003), I saw some soldiers in the airport carrying a weapon similar to the SA-80 or was it the SA-80, since British once invaded that place?
