I am happy to announce that users can finally select from a few options for custom avatars. If you check out your My Account :: Change Settings page you will note that there are now 3 images that show up on the right.
The first is the system avatar you may already have selected. If you'd like to use one of the avatars on this page simply click the Select Avatar link and click on the image you'd like to use.
The second image is for a custom avatar image. This image should be a 75 x 75 pixel image and definitely SQUARE in shape. If you don't know how to create an avatar or resize photos just post a topic asking for help on this (or here) and someone will help you out. You will be uploading the image to a specific category in the photo gallery. So being logged in on the kitmaker domain and able to upload images on the gallery is a must.
The third image is the personal photo that we have always had but now it shows up on this page as well. Same rules as for the custom avatar. This should be a photo of YOU.
And lastly on this page you can select WHICH of these photos you'd like to use as your avatar in the forums. Click the radio button next to your choice and click SAVE at the bottom of the page.
Also for those early birds who got their uploaded yesterday you'll need to go back to the page above and re-click save. That should make your choice take effect this time around.
Here are some guidelines for avatars...
1. Image size should be 75 x75 pixels.
2. File size should be no larger than 10kb.
3. Avatar should be family/kid friendly. No nudity, etc. Use common sense.
Questions?
Enjoy,
Jim

Mike,
I don't see your avatar in the gallery. Did you remove it?
There may be a few bugs to work out yet.
Also for everyone uploading images larger than 75 x 75 pixels you are going to have rather compressed looking (and sometimes very distorted) images. There are lots of photo resizing tools out there these days. You don't have to own a copy of photoshop for this kind of thing.
Cheers,
Jim

Ha ha! I had uploaded one that didn't look right (began as smaller than requested), then deleted it and uploaded another. I figured that the network would "catch up" but I'll just try it again. I'm seeing a lot of cool new avatars popping up because of this... Al, you need a sharper razor!
EDIT- Yay! Sand people!

I do like my "Anti-Rat Attack Cat" tho. Thanks for the opportunity to show "my latest" baby!

It's strange doing the rounds of the forums and not recognizing people because they have new avatars. It's like everyone shaved off their beards and got a haircut.

Pat,
Don't go there! My wife wants me to do BOTH....remove said beard (hey, I like it...so does my "attack cat!" Get groomed every morning! ) and she says I need a hair cut....come on, what's wrong with trying to grow a pony tail????
And you do have a point. Gotta relearn who's who by avatars. A lot of interesting ones tho!

Thanks for implementing this, Jim. Once everyone relearns the avatars of other posters, it'll really help and end that sense of deja vu whenever two posters with the same avatar are contributing.

I still think mine looks fine.
Still looks as charming as I do.
But I'm enjoying seeing everyone elses.
