TWENOT National Meeting Overloon, The Netherlands

 ARMORAMA AT OVERLOON

It is always nice to meet the persons who are behind certain nicknames on the web and whom you have shared tips and techniques with. And in Overloon we had the pleasure of meeting several of these persons in the flesh:

Dirk Lehaen (Bep)
Patrick Claasen (Patman68)
Robert Blokker (Faust)
Marcel Kolsteeg (Greyhunter)

And last but not least

Erik Sikkema (demodelbouwer)

It is also nice to note that several ArmoramA members have gotten some awards in the Twenot contest (that is saying something about this site, is it not?)

Erik Sikkema (demodelbouwer) Gold for his box dio "Living in a box"
Silver for his 1:16 figurine of Obersturmfuhrer Diefenthal
Robert Blokker (Faust) Gold for his Winter Campaign diorama "Distraction"
Ronald Kok (not present in person) Silver for his SAS Commando jeep
Ronny Noben (Roadkill) Brons for the diorama "Saerge, I think …."

Off course a big hand to other winners and certainly to Rob Plas for his Best of Show, congratulations.

 The Location:

WAR & RESISTANCE MUSEUM

The National war and resistance museum the Overloon (www.oorlogsmuseum-overloon.nl), the perfect location for such an event.

Between September 26 and October 26 1944 the Allies and Germans fought one of the fiercest battles here with a great loss of men and equipment on both sides.

The museum is planted on the exact place where this huge battle took place and is surrounded by a 15ha large park where you can view more then 100 vehicles en hundreds of uniforms, weapons, artifacts etc. in and around the museum.

The museum itself exist of 3 complexes, a section where history is shown (thru multi media) starting from the occupation thru resistance and liberation.

Another part shows the horrors of war (the concentration camps in Germany and Asia) and a vehicle complex where you can learn more about the beautiful restored vehicles, planes and even a mini sub that are on display.

You can also visit dozens of vehicles, trench sections, bunkers sections and more in the surrounding park.

This museum/park is worth a visit even if there is no modeling event going on, so if you are on holiday and you should be in Holland, take a day to got to Overloon, you will not regret it.

I know that I will be present in Overloon next year, and maybe, just maybe we will meet each other.
