Hi

I am lucky enough to be going on a nice little holiday to Spain in a few weeks (from UK to Spain).

I would like to take a kit with me to work on while I'm soaking up the sun outside the villa. I will of course need to take a few tools... I'm thinking I'll have the following gear in my suitcase

- Plastic model kit
- Small roll of model files
- Emery board
- Modelling putty
- Fret of PE
- Polystyrene Cement
- Tweezers
- Assorted paintbrushes/formers for PE

Now most of this gear is totally inoffensive and probably won't even show up on airport scans being plastic etc. however according to the smallprint for the airline it says no solvents/flammable liquids in the baggage

I'm curious if anyone has travelled with polystyrene cement and whether it caused a problem with customs ? It's both a solvent AND flammable so doesnt exactly fit with their guidelines...however nail varnish remover etc is in the same category and surely women everywhere travel with it.

I am also curious as to whether my x-acto would cause a fuss in packed luggage ? I could buy a knife over there to use, however i'd like to use my x-acto if possible... but dont want to risk it getting confiscated.

All of the items will be in the packed luggage not hand luggage (that's for my reference material ) so any experiences of your own or possible advice would be much appreciated.

sun, sea, sand, shermans what a holiday

thanks
Jon

I used to travel a lot with a small plastic tackle box I bought at Wal-Mart for around $5. I had a 1/72 scale kit, some sundry modeling supplies, those disposable X-Acto knives Testors makes (black plastic handle) and some Testors acrylic paints. I would place it in my check luggage.

Cool, sounds like an interesting and enjoyable time. And time well spent over some plastic!

When I travel, I leave the liquid cements at home. With airline safety and security, it a hit and miss, go or no-go with this. The rest of your list looks just like mine as long as it is in the check in baggage, but I think that is what you were saying anyway. I have not been to Spain yet, but I think there are hobby shops there somewhere. I suggest buying the liquids there.

Have fun.

As long as it'sin yuor checked baggage, liquid glue should be OK. I would double bag it and place it in a rigid plastic container, thuogh , as you never know how roughly your bags will be handled.

Files & everything other than knives generally can go in hand bagage, but why bother when you already have to check the glue. I'd buy a cheap plastic tool box (can get them at the "dollar store" here in Canada) & pack model, tool and the lot in there. It's also a good place to store it all when not building.
