I was wondering if anybody had used Plaid brand acrylic hobby paint? They're not meant for models, my wife uses them in some of her crafts. I seem to remember somebody mentioning using Walmart paint and saying that it needed to be thinned properly but I can't find the reference.

The reason I'm asking is Hobby Lobby has Plaid brand paints on sale. It's only 58 cents for a 2 and 1/2 oz bottle. Compared to $2.50 for a 1/2 oz bottle of Model Masters this seems a great deal.

I regularly use non specialist model acrylics for my kits. I use Inscribe acrylics and they give a really good finish on figures and vehicles. They cost pennies rather than pounds and are quick drying. The only drawback is that I have to mix them to get the colours required and so they are not technically accurate but to be honest, I have always had the philosophy "if it looks right it is right."

I dont't know the specific brand you mentioned, but what I often do is to buy unexpensive non-modeler paints for some general purpose colors (like red, white, black, yellow, some shades of green and brown). The only thing you have to be careful with is that you should test on a scrap piece of plastic how these colors cope with other colors you have to use. I mean they can attack or be attcked by other coats of color, or they can react to washes, etc.
Usually if you let them dry properly and seal them wit a coat of transparent gloss or matt varnish everything should be fine...

I use Plaid and a couple of other brands. There was along thread about these craft paints a while back. Acrylics are acylics. True, they do not come in German Field Gray or US OD, but they come in just about every other shade you can imagine. I love the blues and reds, as well as other dusty gray colors that one like I found has. They are a fraction of the cost, too. White is white and you can mix just about anything you want with the colors available. i mixed a green-gray for my leopards and have mixed a light OD and others.

This is a great way to save money and add to your tricks. They also spray fine if you thin them right. I have done that too.

So, save yourself some money and have fun!

Acrylics is acrylics! I use the specific military colors for AFV's but common colors are wide open to choose. Our local land fill site(dump) has a paint exchange, leave old, pick up what you want. It's perfect for scenic work when you want a lot of paint.JOCK

Hola!

I paint everything with Deco Art and Apple Barrel hobby acrylics. Well except for metalics and skin tones. I have a bunch of Andrea, Vallejo an dother brand name paints and nothing compares to the hobby acrylics for me.
