I always wanted a model of the Bristol Bloodhound AA Missile because it just has a sleek, evil look of brooding menace.
I built the Airfix 1/72 kit
I wanted to build a 1/35th Missile.
The only kit available is in Resin and about £90 so I decided to try and scratch one. I'm posting it here to stop myself chickening out of the build.
This will be slow and painful!
This is the Missile for real:
And now... My feeble attempts so far...
Missile base with bolts added:
Traverse mounting, rear and right:
Traverse mounting front and left.
Bits done so far:
How it goes together:
Used light hammer and small screwdriver to add cooling vents to front motor housing:
And that's all for now. More base bits to follow soon.
Doing the Missile itself is going to be a real challenge. I ain't a Barv.

Okay,
Had the master builder Steve (Barv) give some tips and sheet stock.
Some more pics:
Missile launcher - front left:
Misile launcher - right side:
Missile body started - this is a pain as the body is tapered from behind the front fins down to the end. The red / white part is a kiddies colour pen which was just the right diameter of 15.5mm.
That's all for now, back to the mess.

Tried to make the warhead from Balsa. A bit too rounded but getting there.

Body looked rubbish. Like lots of tubes joined together so remade from Balsa. Will need lots of tender filling and sanding to get smooth like styrene.

Missile with RamJets, wings and tail fins added.
Slow work but getting there!

Murdo
So far the end results look really cool. It's said that the end judtified the means, so the kids should not be to mad about the lost of the marker..
I do have one question. Why didn't you use steel or brass rods for the tubing ?
