Howdy All,

Had a query for those past and present 'Arty' guys out there.
Just read about this anti-personnel round fired by artillery. Is this new, or is this old news?
Also, was this type of round used in either of the Iraqi 'conflicts'?

It was commonly used in Vietnam for perimeter defense. Its current use by the IDF is controversial. As for its other uses, wouldn't know. In my three years in FA, we never fired them. Either because there were none, or more likely becuase there's little training value in firing them. It's a direct fire round. In fact, the only "exotic" rounds we fired were Copperheads.

Don't know about artillery per se but the Army is buying 28000 of the 120mm M1028 cannister (beehive) rounds for the Abrams.

General Dynamics got the contract...

My older brother drove an M60A3 in Germany in the early '80s. They were trained to shoot beehive rounds towards Sagger gunners to kill them or alter the shot while they were steering the missile.
That what he told me, anyway.
