Seeing that I have given up on doing a NZLAV, thought I might try another current Kiwi topic.

I just picked up the new 1/35 Hilux from Mig productions and might turn it into a Kiwi vehicle in Afghanistan.

All I need are some 1/35 Steyrs (can I find these anywhere), a spare rear seat and a few converted figures.

Check out "the Rock" sticker on the back of the seat.- cool

Also the only "technical" I have seen with somewhere for the gunner to sit

cheers
Kev

Great idea Kev, looking forward to seeing this project in progress. Sorry I can't help you on the extras you need, hopefully someone else can. I wouldn't mind doing a Kiwi Humvee in the future.

This is one project I'd like to do as well!

Where did you pick up the Mig hilux from?

There is a great deal of variety in the Hiluxs used on Op Crib, and the vehicles only last a short time. I have pictures showing different colours, and different roof boxes, the pics I have are about two years old and they were using wooden roof boxes then. Also some vehicles include a largeblack circle with a white Kiwi superimposed on it on the bonnet, much the same as our Kiwi arm patches.

I've got a set of steyrs that look a lot like those pictured (no idea where they are at present though....!) from modelcrafts and hobbies a few years ago.

I don't know how much access you might have to kiwi equipment....? Modern british figures are a good place to start, our belt webbing is pretty similar (although a lot cheaper and nastier) to the brit PLCE it was copied from. Various patterns of vest webbing are also worn and again the Brit stuff is closer than the US stuff. Note the black baseball caps are pretty common as head dress, rather than the helmets, but the helmets when worn are standard PASGT helmets with DDPM covers. DDPM is the same as the brit pattern.
One piece of clothing specifically issued to Op Crib is the Macpac SundownerXPD down 'puffer' jacket in black.

Just some more ideas for you!

I'm not 100% sure, I think it is for carrying recovery gear, possibly just general storage. Next week I will ask the guy who was there when the photos were taken.

Phil,
would be good to know what the box on the top is for,
I have already started scratch building one.

My theory is that it's full of Steinys and Bacon sandwiches: Why?

1: the guys must get thirsty and hungry out there
2: put the most important things right in front on the MG where the enemy can't get them
3: last resort weapon against the Taliban

cheers
