Hi guys,
after your never ending wisdom again!
I have some old photo etch frets that have tarnished with age, most are fine but one has tarnished worse than the others. I'm after a way to clean it up in order to use some of the parts. As its a brass(?) fret i'm thimking that simply cleaning with a bit of brasso should do the job, am I correct?
What I dont want to do is lose some of the finer details on the parts by using something 'over corrosive'.
As always all suggestions are much appreciated,
Cheers,
James

A squirt of oven cleaning, like Easy Off, in a ziplock bag helps remove tarnish.

Thanks guys,
I'll give both these methods a try as I have vinegar and oven cleaner to hand (unlike brasso).
Just a quick question:
How long would you leave the oven cleaner on for? Overnight as when removing enamel paint?
Cheers,
James

hmmm...unless the tarnish would affect paint, why bother cleaning it if you're going to paint over it? I have used discolored etch with no ill-effects that I could detect.. ( etch-effects-detect..hey Im a rapper! )
