(Since this is not a vehicle-type weapon, I wasn't sure where to put this.)
I read about the M1917 machine gun on Google, and it said there was also an M1917A1 version which had a faster firing rate. But the article didn't say what the actual differences were, only that the guns were "rearsenaled" to extend their service life. Were they modified, and if so, how? Are the two versions externally different?

There's not much as to "specifics" on the changes other than the extra 600 rpm fire rate............

That's one on me. I didn't know FAS covered small arms as well.
