Hello,

Just started modeling again since I was a kid. I was wondering if there were any active clubs or groups around western Michigan?

Hi Frank,
Same with me too, after several years I bought myself a couple kits on last friday, February 29th, and thinking about if I can build again. I live in East Lansing and currently getting a second degree after serving in the Army.

I'm in Sterling Heights which is north of Detroit... I'm seriously considering getting back into the hobby... I'd like to start out on the low level again... Fortunately for me there is a hobby shop right next door to the cigar shop I frequent on Old Van Dyke just north of 19 Mile... Its called Great Lakes Hobby they were located in Utica north of Hall Road but moved to the current location... I've been in there once to browse around and I bought a few magazines... Its mostly model trains, plastic models, toys, etc... They have about two or three isles for plastic models...

There's a couple of good IPMS groups near you, IPMS Kalamazoo & Grand Rapids. They just put on a heck of a show at the Air Zoo. I'm in SE Michigan, Canton. Not many good brick and mortar hobby shops around anymore. Great Lakes is good, but a far drive.
Happy Building!!

Depending on what kind of stuff you want to do, check out the Michigan Historical Miniatures Club. It's a good bunch of guys and the meetings at Michigan Toy Soldier have just started again after taking the summer off. If you go, bring something to work on. It's a really casual laid back atmosphere and there's more open painting going on than club business.

If you're into painting figures (or other stuff) at all, there's open painting at Rider's in Grand Rapids on Saturday Oct. 4 from 1 to 4pm. (I'm trying to get a painting club going on the west side of the state.)

My name is Dave Youngquist and I'm the new guy at Michigan Toy Soldier. I have been running the ( with Wendy's help) Michigan Historical Miniatures Club at Mich. Toy for the past 8 years or so. New members are always welcome.
Even if you are not into figures we have a huge selection of diorama materials and modeling supplies. Take a look at our site http://www.michtoy.com/ or give me a call.

Hello Randy,

I'm new to the forum. Would you have an address or some other kind of contact info for the IPMS Kalamazoo/Grand Rapids? I'm in Grand Rapids myself. Thanks.

Best Regards,

Mike

Hi again guys, just saw this thread pop back up. I don't have the street address for the Kalamazoo IPMS, but I know they hold their meetings on the first Tuesday of the month at the First Methodist Church on Nichols Rd.
