Hi guys
Just joined the forum, I am in the Royal Air Force Police doing an operational tour in Northern Ireland, looks to me like i am missing the action if i had stayed in the mainland UK i would now be sunning myself in some desert somewhere. I have done one tour out there (after the war) as part of JTFSWA we were looking after the small British contingent there, made some good friends amongst the USAF SP's and othres who worked in the CAOC Eskan village as it was has now closed and moved down the road to PSAB Prince Sultan Air Base). Lots of my mates are now poised in the kuwati desert including my brother who is a Recce (CVRT- Scimitar, 9/12 Royal Lancers) commander, i hope others will join me in wishing all allied forces in the region the best and lets hope they all come back soon and in one piece. We in Northern Ireland thought we were at the sharp end, how quickley things change.

Judging by the images I've seen lately its probaly a good thing. Wouldn't imagine Northern Ireland the most friendly place in the world either. Besides working the desert ain't pleasant. Some of our biggest training areas are in Central Australia - not the same type of desert - but desert nevertheless, stinking hot during the day, freezing cold at night and a powdery red dust that gets into everything.
