FWIW, I'm a roman catholic...yes, those of the arobic workout at mass people{stand/sit/kneel...repete}..hahaha.
Aside from giving up meat on fridays as always I chose something close to the heart this year for lent{seeing as I tried to give up giving up things for lent the lest few years!}..."buying models". This has been an effort to say the least! I deamed shop supplies/paints/glue were ok, but no models.
Funny thing, my wife is luthern{no, haven't had her convert over...that's her call} and she gave up cussing for lent...with her office job, ME, and the kids highjinks, I say she and I are having the same hard time. :-)

Jan Lent is the 40 days before Easter when as a sign of their devotion Catholics give up some luxury. A lot of people here in Ireland give up alcohol for lent with a day off for St Patrick's day. I'm an atheist(a Catholic one) but I often observe lent as a detox after the indulgence of Christmas.
My wife laughed at me when I said I was giving up alcohol as I hardly drink anyway. So it's no chocolate for me til Easter

I'm Catholic as well. But I live here in Saudi so, not much of a place to practice. I'd probably go to one of those illegal prayer groups. I don't eat red meat anyway so I've nothing much to loose there.
Stop swearing. Come to work on time. Fast probably.

Man: You sit here, dear.
Wife: All right.
Man: Morning!
Waitress: Morning!
Man: Well, what've you got?
Waitress: Well, there's egg and bacon; egg sausage and bacon; egg and spam; egg bacon and spam; egg bacon sausage and spam; spam bacon sausage and spam; spam egg spam spam bacon and spam; spam sausage spam spam bacon spam tomato and spam;
Vikings: Spam spam spam spam...
Waitress: ...spam spam spam egg and spam; spam spam spam spam spam spam baked beans spam spam spam...
Vikings: Spam! Lovely spam! Lovely spam!
Waitress: ...or Lobster Thermidor a Crevette with a mornay sauce served in a Provencale manner with shallots and aubergines garnished with truffle pate, brandy and with a fried egg on top and spam.
Wife: Have you got anything without spam?
Waitress: Well, there's spam egg sausage and spam, that's not got much spam in it.
Wife: I don't want ANY spam!
Man: Why can't she have egg bacon spam and sausage?
Wife: THAT'S got spam in it!
Man: Hasn't got as much spam in it as spam egg sausage and spam, has it?
Vikings: Spam spam spam spam... (Crescendo through next few lines...)
Wife: Could you do the egg bacon spam and sausage without the spam then?
Waitress: Urgghh!
Wife: What do you mean 'Urgghh'? I don't like spam!
Vikings: Lovely spam! Wonderful spam!
Waitress: Shut up!
Vikings: Lovely spam! Wonderful spam!
Waitress: Shut up! (Vikings stop) Bloody Vikings! You can't have egg bacon spam and sausage without the spam.
Wife: I don't like spam!
Man: Sshh, dear, don't cause a fuss. I'll have your spam. I love it. I'm having spam spam spam spam spam spam spam beaked beans spam spam spam and spam!
Vikings: Spam spam spam spam. Lovely spam! Wonderful spam!
Waitress: Shut up!! Baked beans are off.
Man: Well could I have her spam instead of the baked beans then?
Waitress: You mean spam spam spam spam spam spam... (but it is too late and the Vikings drown her words)
Vikings: Spam spam spam spam. Lovely spam! Wonderful spam! Spam spa-a-a-a-a-am spam spa-a-a-a-a-am spam. Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Lovely spam! Spam spam spam spam!

Definitely a cut and paste. It's up there with the dead parrot, the lumberjack song, the four Yorshiremen ( I had to get up in the morning at ten o'clock at night, half an hour before I went to bed,, eat a lump of cold poison, work twenty-nine hours a day down mill, and pay mill owner for permission to come to work, and when we got home, our Dad would kill us, and dance about on our graves singing "Hallelujah.") and, of course, the Spanish Inqusition...

The wife & I have given up chocolate for Lent - this is actually quite something for us as we are both chocaholics! My missus says after about a week she doesn't crave chocolate any more - doesn't work for me, I'm just counting the days until the chocolate orgy @ Easter! We are sort of lapsed C of E, for our US cousins that's sort of like Lutheran but with "spiky bits", as one of my friends calls it (he's lapsed Catholic!); or if you prefer Catholic but without the Pope.

Our main weapon is fear.
Fear and surprise. Our two weapons are fear and surprise and a ruthless efficiency.
Amongst our weapons are such diverse elements as fear, surprise, ruthless efficiency and an almost fanatical devotion to the pope....
And our pretty red uniforms.
I'll come in again..........
