My fellow Canadian Modelers:

I am coming to you from Kandahar Air Field and was wondering if it would be possible for a little help.

Some of us over here in Afganistan are avid modeler and have been lucky to have a fair number of donated models which when we have some down time would like to built.

But to the best of my knowledge we could use the basics ie adhesives, paints and maybe a couple of airbrushes and compressors.

If there is anyone out there that would like to donate used or new items then please reply and I will send you the address that you could forward these items to.

Your support in allowing us to set up a modeling club over here will be greatly appricated and with luck we will be able to post some of our finsihed projects to this site.

Randall,
Are there any restrictions on what can and cant be sent in the way of paints or glues? Are enamel paints ok or would acrylics be preferred, tube glue or liquid glue... This would be good to know as well so anything that is sent wont be returned.

Dave

Thanks for the questions

I am not sure as to what restrictions will be but if you can w/o I will try and find out. Or you might contact you local post office and see if they can be of service regarding this. But I don't think if you send acrylics that will be much of a problem as they are water based and as far as I know are not hazzardous. As for clue I'm not sure .

Thanks Randall..
I will check with the local post office. A buddy of mine has a close friend in the forces working out of CFB Borden. I will contact him as well and see if there is anything in place as to mailing restrictions...

Unfortunately, I think you'll find that pretty much every solvent or solvent based product is banned from the mails. Unless it's CA glue or water based paint (and I mean water based and not acrylics which frequently use a solvent base) I think we are legally out of luck.

Now, that doesn't mean that you _have_ to declare exactly what's inside. Just that you're supposed to...

Sounds like things are moving along in the modelling scene in KAF now. I left in Oct 06, and there wasn't anything that I found.

I came across this link the other day -
http://www.ipmsusa.org/Features/Baghdad_Hobby_Club/Kandahar_Modeling_Club.htm
Perhaps some sort of 'multinational cooperation' could be arranged?

There was a campaign in the Maritimes some time ago called "Kits for Kandahar"... Anyone know the status of this?

Cheers,
JP
