Hi all. I haven't posted in this sector of the Big A before but have stayed pretty much in the axis armor forum. What brings me here is the beginning of my effort to learn something about what my son will be facing in his upcoming assignment. He's presently an IS2 aboard the USS Essex. His tour ends in a few months and he has just received word that he is going to be assigned to SEAL Team 7 as an intelligence specialist. He's all excited about it but I'm pretty much in the dark about exactly what he'll be up to. About all I know is that he'll deploy along with Team 7 when they deploy and will do things such as battlefield assessment, other than which I really don't know what he'll be doing. His first assignment will be to the Special Warfare School, where he told me his final exam will be a SEAL exercise of some sort, and after that he'll go to Coronado. Pretty much all I know about Team 7 is that their area of operations is the Mediterranean and Africa, which of course includes Iraq and, unless I'm mistaken, Afghanistan.

So anyway, I'd really appreciate it if some of you Navy guys--or anyone else in the know--could help me out with some info or refer me to where I can learn more about Team 7's operations or hopefully exactly what an intel specialist with them or any of the other teams might be called on to do. Needless to say I'm really proud of my boy, but I'd be lying if I said that I'm not just a little worried also. Thanks.

Michael

Thanks, Matt. I'd already seen that website. I realize that it's a classified group, but there is some unclassified info out there, and I was hoping that someone here might either have some firsthand knowledge of matters they can lawfully talk about or be able to refer me to where I can otherwise learn something more about it.

I understand your concerns for your son's safety - and your pride in his selection for that group. I can only imagine how I would feel if one of mine had that assignment.

In the interests of your son's safety and the safety of his team, I would recommend making him your sole source of information about his training and assignments. He will tell you what he can when the time is right.

Beyond that, all the rest of us can do is speculate and in the process risk giving you incorrect information.

Thank you and your son for the sacrifices your are making for all of us.

Semper Fi,
