Hi all....
I've been shopping one line for quite some time now.And ,although I've been using military hobby /northstar hobbies, almost exclusively ...
I'd like to know where my fellow Canadians do their own online shopping, and for which reason ?...

cheers

Judging from the number of views vs responses, I would say you're asking for classified information with regards to national security... :-)

You can always try our store (shameless plug). We do mail order and serve many modelers across Canada.

There was a question on this a little while ago.
Here is the link (hope I get this right):
https://archive.kitmaker.net/forums/74535&page=1

A good chunk of those views are probably mine, I am always curious where people shop.

Francis, I have heard of your shop, but never actually taken a good look. I am impressed with your prices. You may be hearing from me soon...

Mike

I used to always use Military Hobbies but that was before they were taken over by NorthStar. After the take over the prices increased considerably. I have recently tried Hobby Easy in Hong Kong for photo etch, metal barrels, etc. I have been impressed with their speedy service (within 7 business days). I must admit though that I buy most of my kits locally here in Barrie, or at Hornet Hobbies in Toronto.

Hate to say it but I usually shop across the line at Squadron.

More at home, I have bought a few things from The Barrel Store.

Had great service from both of them. Most of what I do buy online is AM parts. Kits I usually buy locally when I get out to them.

Yep Hobby Easy for me as well. Usually I pick up a few kits and save on shipping. It usually saves me the cost of buying a kit locally. Say a local store charges 50 plus CND dollars, I can get 2 kits for around that price at Hobby Easy (even with exchange) but I usually order 3 or 4 kits because of the shipping costs...

I do still shop at local stores when they have reasonable prices and buy my glue paint and mags/books locally as well...

Cheers, Michael

I have to agree about Military Hobbies, I no longer shop there at all since NSH took over.

I shop at The Barrel Store, Air Connection, JJ Fedorowicz, and one of my personal favourites AFV Distribution. All Canadian.

I have to say Squadron, as they always seem to have that one item that cannot be found.
Plus I have never had a problem with my order. That and Hobby Link Japan for those really rare items.
Check out the brass bullet rounds (yes 7.92 mm mauser rounds)
But being new to Canada I must say that North Star does the trick for the most part.

I tried Udisco recently and was very pleased with them. Less then 48hrs before receiving my order. Don't really know about their price but they seems fair to me.

Well, I have just received my first purchase from LuckyModel, and I have to admit, I am very impressed! Excellent prices (especially on the items featuring free shipping), very well packed and it was received in under 2 weeks! Not all items were in stock, so they were sent in two shipments one day apart.
I will definitely be using them again!!
Mind you, most of my items were pretty small (the Bug, Mr. Surfacer 500, 100, 1200 and thinner and a few other odds and ends) so shipping was quite low. Double check when buying kits as the shipping goes up considerably on larger items.

Since my last reply to this orginal e-mail, I now seem to shop exclusively at Luck y Model for my goodies, excellent service, very good prices, free shipping on some items, just remember that the in stock items will be shipped quickly, the others may take some time. I have also ordered directly from Tank Work Shop, and still buy most of my Dragon kits locally here in Barrie.

Going to put my own plug in here, as I am a new store that opened up last Feb (wow, almost a year).

I don't have a website as of yet, but a friend of mine is allowing me to use a part of his forum to advertise my wares.

I am on the East coast of Canada in New Brunswick, and I will ship all over.

Elm City Hobbies is the name of the company, it has started off small, but has steadily grown, and is still growing.

Anyway, if you are interested, have a look at my thread on the forum, it has the latest what's new, as well as a list of inventory and prices of what I have in stock, as well as finishing supplies.

Right now I use

- Local Hobby Shop (Ideal Hobbies) first, just to see what they may have in stock from Dragon and to talk to Dave.
- Lucky Models
- Rainbow 10 and HobbyLink Japan (Japanese AM kits)
- Sprue Brothers Models
- The Barrel Shop

Favourite Local Hobby Shop: Modeller's Choice in Hamilton. Great selection and they will order something in for you if they don't have it on the shelf.
Favourite Online Hobby Shop: Udisco in Montreal- ENORMOUS selection and fast, I mean, REAL FAST service.
Favourite Worldwide Hobby Shop: Ebay. No need to elabourate here.
Favourite Hobby Shop For Japanese Navy Subjects: HobbyLink Japan. A bit pricey but the place to go if you want the inside track on the latest release IJN model.
