Hi all, I've been a member of the site since last August and I guess it's about time I introduced my self.
My name's John Jukes (aka jjumbo) and I live in Vancouver, British Columbia.
I'm principally interested in WW II AFV's, softskins and figures.
I first got introduced to building models way back in the late 1960's, especially after seeing the movie "The Battle of Britain".
My Dad used to come home from business trips back East and would bring me an aircraft model or Dinky military toy.
I built all scales of aircraft, ships, cars and even spaceships.
When I got old enough to ask my Dad "What did you do during the war?", I discovered that he had been a Major with the Canadian Scottish Regiment and commanded an infantry company in and around Hamburg, in Northern Germany in 1945.
His company was outfitted with Wasp flamethrower Universal Carriers and lots of Jeeps and 15cwt trucks.
Whamo, I was instantly fascinated with military hardware, especially Canadian AFV's and vehicles.
When a friend of mine joined up with the local Militia recce regiment, I was hooked.
I cut my teeth on those early Airfix, Aurora, Bandai and Monogram kits in 1/48th and 1/32nd scale.
I still have those Shepard Paine colour inserts on scratchbuilding dioramas from Monogram.
When Esci, Italieri(aka Italeri) and Tamiya came on board with the 1/35th stuff, it was getting to be a fixation.
I can't believe how much quality and variety has been introduced to the hobby in the past 10 years.
I'll probably never build half of my stash, not with all the new stuff.
Anyway, that's who I am.
Keep up the great work.
Cheers

Thanks Jan,
The weather here has almost been very near Swedish of late.
First it was weeks of rain, then hurricane force winds and finally snow and -10 C temperatures.
Your family here must of thought they were back home again with all the cold weather and snow we had.
What's your favorite era for AFV's?
WW II, Post war, Modern.........?
Cheers

Hey Jan,
I build mainly WW II armour and softskins.
My main interest is Canadian vehicles, particularly those that were used by the local regiments like the BCR's (aka the British Columbia Regiment) who served in NW Europe and the BCD's (aka the British Columbia Dragoons) who served in Italy and later in NW Europe.
I'm also interested in other Commonwealth and Allied AFV's and vehicles and , of course, any and all Axis vehicles.
Like I said before, I'll probably never get all my stash built in my lifetime.
Cheers.

Gday Andy

A very warm welcome to Armorama from New Zealand.

As you are already aware this is the place if you are into AFV's.

Regards

Sean

Thanks Sean.
How did you know Andrew (Andy) was my middle name? LOL
How's it going, eh?
This is a great site, I love the variety of subjects that are discussed and mulled over.
What's your poison, WW II, Post War, Modern, Allied, Axis, Soviet Bloc, NATO, SEATO, etc...?
FYI, a good friend of mine, John Duncan, moved down to your neck of the woods a few years ago.
Unfortunately he's a dedicated builder of 1/72nd scale aircraft models and not AFV's,
Oh well, no ones perfect .

Cheers

Hi John Andrew

Oops sorry about the mistake.

Sorry I have not come across your friend.

My poison is WW2 Armour etc of the German variety in 1/35th plus WW2 S-Boats and U-Boats.

Regards

Sean

Hey Sean,
No problems with the name.
Andrew's my middle name because Mum hated the idea of my being called Andy
Yeah, I doubt you would run into my buddy John and not remember him.
As I said, he's an avid aircraft builder, works in the aviation maintenance industry and has a very, very dry and sarcastic wit.
Anyway, what are you working on right now?
I've literally got about a dozen kits in various stages of construction.
Cheers

Hi John

At present I am working on a 1/700 IJN Isuzu cruiser for a campaign on our shipmodelling forum modelshipwrights as I also like to dabble in ships.

I just work on one thing at a time.

Hey Sean.
My problem of late is I get wrapped up in building a kit and then someone releases another one that I've wanted for ages.
I'll put away what I'm working on and start right into another new kit.
Cheers
